Jules Bianchi. R.I.P. (UPDATE)
Formula One driver, Jules Bianchi, died last friday as a result of his injuries, following a crash at the 2014 Japanese Grand Prix.
He went into a coma and never regained consciousness.
It's a sad time for F1 being the first death since Ayrton Senna and Roland Ratzenberger at the Italian Grand Prix in 1994.

Despite all the modern safety precautions, it can still happen!!

Very sad Al,
Promising young driver ..... and personally I think he would have replaced Kimi at Ferrari next year.
As you said though .... as many safety precautions they can implement, this sad result is always an option.

I've never seen that footage before, I often wondered what happened.

Re: Jules Bianchi. R.I.P. (UPDATE)
Jules car struck the recovery vehicle at 78mph, registering a 59g impact force and the sensor's in his ear plugs recorded a g force of 92g.
However, the FIA believe the ear plug sensors slipped and that the actual g force was a staggering 254g. The highest ever recorded by the FIA.!!
Unbelievable!

Re: Jules Bianchi. R.I.P. (UPDATE)
which japanese track was it at?
back in 2003 Daijiro Kato died at Suzuka the officials and mashalls and indeed the track were criticised..........so much so that moto gp hasnt raced there since, which is a blow since honda own the track and would obviously want to be racing/winning on thier own circuit

Re: Jules Bianchi. R.I.P. (UPDATE)
The track is safe Paul, it was just a freak accident that he collided with the recovery vehicle.

It is sad when someone loses their life, but at least head went doing what he loved...
May I ask, does anyone know if the Marshall made it out ok, you see him just as the car hits the tractor, I have had a read but couldn't find any mention of him...

Re: Jules Bianchi. R.I.P. (UPDATE)
Racing isn't carnival "bumper cars" but folks don't have to die either. I still remember Niki Lauda and the horrible accident and burns. In the competition between safety and fan interest (i.e. higher speeds) I'd accept a little less speed. Rallying dropped the thrilling, but ultimately dangerous race cars in stock body form yrs ago. Rallying is still around.
