Frenchie's Beer and Barbecue
Frenchie's is done!!
Frenchie's took approximately 15 months to complete. The vast majority of the diorama is scratch built. I enjoyed building it, but must admit that toward the end I had to force myself to work on it. I think this will be my last large diorama for a while. It takes too long and there is a problem with displaying them when they are done. Frenchie's is headed for GSL at the end of this month. We'll see how it does against the big boys. Hope you guys enjoyed watching it come together.

Re: Frenchie's Beer and Barbecue
They do take a long time, i'm about 18 months into my MASH dio, and thats no where done and has gone on the back burner for a while ... as long as you enjoyed it thats the main thing.
Onto the dio, it's really well laid out, there's lots to see, the scratch building is really good ... as are the vehicles and figures.
Definitely a constant display piece and not to be put away ..... just to let people be reminded how good your creativity is !!!!

John, I enjoyed the building of this one. A very well written OTB. Good luck at the GSL, Bob and I won't be there. Maybe we'll make the next one. Beautiful work.

Re: Frenchie's Beer and Barbecue
You finally made it!!!................ now if the judges call this one 'cute', let me know and Shay and I will bring some of the boys over to have a 'friendly conversation' with them.
I love it John. The six figures and three vehicles keep it just busy enough without overdoing it and there are plenty of little details to take in too.
Good luck with it at GSL.

Thanks for the kind comments guys.
Pete, looking forward to seeing you again. You will also get to see Al's Model A California Highway Patrol car. That in itself is worth the trip.
Buck, truly sorry you and Bob can't make it. Maybe next time.

Re: Frenchie's Beer and Barbecue
Its a marvelous piece of art Mr J, a tremendous effort, I can remember seeing the first pictures of those pieces of wood laid out and showing the mrs saying, "Hey, look what this guys doing" and her reply was the normal "oh yeah, whatever" this my friend is definitely not a whatever.
Great stuff and glad you persevered with it, was well worth the effort I think.

John, looking forward to the trip to the GSL, and to see you again. Sorry we won't have Buck there, but we should have a pretty good representation from the forum.

All quite fantastic! Weathering on wood is HARD, and you did excellent. Light rust on metal roof is also right good. think I'll have me one o' them BBQs and a Dr.Pepper, if you please.

Re: Frenchie's Beer and Barbecue
Thanks guys. I really appreciate the supportive comments. I'm hoping to get another diorama started about the end of July. I haven't made up my mind for sure yet, but am leaning toward either a railroad car diner or a barn find.
