Sendai class light cruisers
I have been building ships for many years and recently added these ones to my collection. These are light cruisers of the Sendai class used by the Japanese navy in WW2. They were the 'newest' light cruises Japan had at the start of the war and were used a lot in the early stages of the Pacific War. They were all sunk early as a result. Two of them, the Naka and Jintsu were involved in the sinking of two real heroes in those desperate times, the USS Houston and the HMAS Perth in the Battle of Sunda Strait. Anyway here are the villains, thanks for looking.

Great looking ships Chris. They look perfectly at rest in some port or other.
Any chance of a scale shot please?

Very nice collection of ships You must have darn good eyes and steady hands to do that small of scale, I know I don't.

WOW! A huge collection fer sure and pretty good detail for so small a scale. Looking at them I am surprised how few guns they have for the deck space and how little shielding on the biggest guns (bare rears!). I'll have to check the Web to see if that was standard for cruisers. Tho it's small scale it seems deficient in anti aircraft guns too. If memory serves, the Japanese always did seem to be short on steel so they cut defensive corners everywhere. Thanks for some interesting ships and a look at your own armada!

Thanks guys! Yes, you are right, Japanese light cruisers were under gunned when compared with other navies.harron68 wrote:WOW! A huge collection fer sure and pretty good detail for so small a scale. If I may . . . a question, have you done any ships with weathering or battle damage? It would be hard in a small scale, but a bit of use can increase interest in a model.

I know what you mean, they look a bit bland LOL. I am more of a collector than a serious modeller. I am hoping to have the Japanese Navy and a lot of the US Navy made in 1/700 scale before the time comes for my kids to bury me. I do have a product called AK Interactive used for weathering ships, will try it out soon. So many ships to build and so little time. Many thanks for your feedback it is appreciated.harron68 wrote:If I may . . . a question, have you done any ships with weathering or battle damage? Dr. Cranky on his You Tubes, has done a vid on the AK Interactive products. I hope you run out of U.S., Japanese, British, Australian, German and Canadian ships before you retire to enjoy complete collections for a few years!
RE: ship camo, Some of the WWI ships had strange and interesting paint schemes and I haven't seen any in ages. Any in your collection?

Re: Sendai class light cruisers
No, I don't have any ships with dazzle camouflage. I will be doing American ships in various schemes soon. A company called Gator Masks makes masks for these camo schemes. I have two sets, one for the USS Alaska and one for the USS Guam. The only problem I see is that the masks are outlined on a side view of the kit in 1/700 scale, but the sides of the hull are curved and no allowance is made for that. Anyway should be fun anyway.harron68 wrote:Dr. Cranky on his You Tubes, has done a vid on the AK Interactive products. Very nice indeed, Chris. Your collection is certainly extensive and the work is made all the more impressive by the tiny scale, I would never have imagined them being so small
