How to make a vintage driver figure from a modern
This tutorial was written by texwardfan and was originally posted at Sharksrealm.
Here is the driver that comes in any Revell modern Nascar kit. this one came from the 2007 Jimmy Johnson kit.
You next need a photo of your driver next to his car so you can guage how long he is in comparison to a certain part of the car. measure a part of the car that is the same length as his torso or say his calf or thigh.
Next you cut out sections of the leg to get it the right length
Cut the arms at the elbow so you can get them at the correct angle for the driver to hold the steering wheel.
Remove plastic from the visor portion of the helmet so you can make a face using putty which is easy to shape with knives and sanding sticks.
You need to cut out the bottom of the seat so the driver looks like hes sitting in the seat instead of on a rock hard one.
I taped the interior together with the dash board and steering wheel to get the drivers hands to hold the wheel properly. you have to cut the hands at the wrists and rotate them to do this.
Now you add a bill to the helmet and add some putty to the top to get it right. also fill in the voids in the arms and shoulders with putty and sand them smooth. I also added a collar fashioned from sheet styrene.
Ready for paint and painted. the stripes on the arms are strips cut from a white decal sheet
Cut off a piece of clear sprue from the kit. Shape it into goggles and then polish them with 2400 to 12000 grit polishing pads till they are clear.
Finally you add the goggles and shoulder and seat belts and your pretty much done.

My heavens, what a fine tutorial. The face and goggles are remarkable. Thank you and I hope this stays around for future help to builders!
