'66 VW "Cal Look" VW Bug
Here is the other model that I am entering into the GSL show.
It started out as the 1966 VW bug kit from Tamiya. To have it modeled in the "California Look" from the 60's, the body was de-chromed, the front was lowered (by rotating the trailing arms on the axle beam), T bumpers added, and of course, a monster VW engine with BIG dual Webers. It has extras, such as a traction bar, external oil filter, mid-trans mount and the hi-performance exhaust system (made in brass). Interior sports extra gauges, tee handle shifter, wood rim steering wheel and competition belts.
So here are a few photos:

Nice Bug....a whole lot easier than building the real thing.
I've built quite a few beetles in 1.1 scale which helps in getting detail correct in smaller scale.
However, non of my 1/25th scale models have reached the finished stage and remain in their boxes.
....here is a photo of the latest 1.1 scale Cal-Look Bug I built - which took 5 years to complete, but which I sold recently.

Nice looking Cal Look bug. Just look at the photo under my posts, and you can see mine.
I see that you left on the side trim, like I did. I just did not want to have all of the trim holes in the body filled!! Your stance looks a lot like mine, with the front lowered just the right amount. I used a narrowed front beam (2 inches), along with adjusters on the beam and drop spindles. That with a little lowering on the rear (one spline on the torsion bars), gives just the right look.
What engine mods did this have?
I really like the wheels. Nice period look!

Brizio, yes that is me. I remember being behind the Fed Ex truck. I needed some gas before I headed to the weekly Beaches cruise-in at Portland International Raceway. The featured car was the VW, so I had to go.
Great cars, and a fun time!!!

Hi Pete - My '63 had lowered and narrowed beam too, with dropped spindles that gave a superb ride.
It ran about 2" off the ground, so I had to plan my routes, but it looked cool.
Five spoke Alloys were imported from Japan, and the original engine was swapped for a hot 1600.
Check out my other beetle in VW Beetle 1303 Rally, in the Finished Works, Race Car Thread !
