99 repsol honda nsr500
Ok so while I'm breaking from the fiat build I thought I'd start this repsol as a real quick build and a brush up on my masking and color matching.
Well here it is. The colors of course don't look great in photo. I gotta wait for my trade with a fellow builder to go thru so I get some decent photos.
And the decals.
I think I got the colors pretty close. Now if only I could show the true photos lol

Nice start, Ricky. You sure have been on a M/C kick lately.
Both a finger and a thumb. LOL
What paint did you use for that orange?

Re: 99 repsol honda nsr500
Thanks guys. I thought the finger racing stripe would make it quicker to the drawl in the cali traffic lol.
Paul I'm really enjoying these bikes I forgot how fun they are.
As for the orange its Tamiya paints... The mixture called for x-6:1 and x-8:2. Yeah that looks all good but to light. I mixed to the decal orange. Which ended up being like x-6:4 to x-8:2 and thinner only one part was needed. I think the colors looks good. It's slightly lighter then the decals but I think once I have the clear on that will make it prefect match.
I hope.
As for the nice crisp lines. They are courtesy of Tamiya tape and rubbing the hell outta it to make sure the edge was down.
What's great is the white is actually kit plastic. No paint. Thank god I don't have to try and spray white lol
But thanks guys happy your all enjoying

Re: 99 repsol honda nsr500
Thanks much guys ok got a chance for more work... Here's how the cowling is looking now...
Also as you can see the nsr decal has orange around it. The colors are spot on. With the clear it'll be 100% I hope
Yet another slight chip in the decal. Upper red part... Easy fix.

Thanks guys means a lot. yall know how to make a guy feel good about a build lol.
I'm hoping I can get the rest of it to follow suit. Will see what happens. I don't plan on adding anything. Should be box stock... Famous last words anyone lol

Re: 99 repsol honda nsr500
Ok so I had been workin on this but didn't have much so here's a little bit more.
Got the chain done took little while lotta colors going on here...
Flat black base with a X-31 topper followed by a wash of X-1 and then a dry brush of model masters brass and lastly picking out all the chrome connecters.
I really wish it showed more on the pictures o well.
Couple of engine shots.
Next got the swing arm attached and engine pretty much in place.
And a small mock up with fairings.
K well it for now. Cleaning up the exhaust and getting ready to try my new chrome on it. God I hope this stuff works as nice as in the magazines.
Thanks for looking and thanks for the comments fellas. Yall keep me pulling thru.

It's coming along great Ricky. Nice stuff.
Did you do the welds on the radiator or is that inherent to the kit?

Re: 99 repsol honda nsr500
That is inherent of the kit Al. I simply did a small wash to make them pop .
And thank you

Re: 99 repsol honda nsr500
I know but maybe not going to..... Disaster... For the first time my acrylic clear didn't like the Tamiya royal blue :/
This will be striped and I may just make my own color idea up for the cowling... With the decals shot ill just have to see what happens next. All I need was a clear coat and some more lines and it was done... So close... Plus side the decals held up real well against the clear... They looked great...
Here's the outcome...
O well... Next lol

Re: 99 repsol honda nsr500
Oh man Ricky, I feel for you buddie.
This is the main reason I never clear coat decals. No matter how many times you've used a particular brand of clearcoat, there is ALWAYS the possibility of this happening.
The other reason?............ decals on race cars/bikes don't get clearcoated.
Can you get a fresh set of decals for it?

Man, Ricky! I'm sorry to hear about the travesty with the paint work. It was lookin' so good too! Seeing your work, you'll persevere and make it better. Can't wait to see more of your great work on this bike. 8)
P.S. It jus' hit me! You can easily do it in Primer or redo the paint colors without the decals to make it look like it's doing trials and dials. Jus' a thought.

I fight the same battle with clear coat. Some days you are the bug and some days the windshield.
