McLaren Mercedes MP4/12

Well it's one down and one to go. When Al sent me this kit in 2004 it was supposed to expand my horizons. So now I can see further and more clearly. I did enjoy the build even though I know very little about F-1 cars or the racing. When I first looked at the kit I thought it was simple and would be a snap. Well it was simple to build but the decorating was something else. I have counted the decals on this car 3 times and the final number is 103 decals. Decals are my biggest weak point so I needed to do this. I think all in all it turned out pretty good.

One other thing I learned doing this was the "Silberpheil" mean "silver arrow". All in all a good experience. Thanks to Skidsolo.







As long as I was up to something different I tried a few shots with another back ground. Geezerman calls them his "Glamor Shots" but I really like the white back ground in some of his pictures. I went down to Walmart and got a 4 dollars flat white bed sheet and gave it a try. Here is the result.







Oh almost forgot, thanks to Tumbler for the Dullcoat tip. That made a world of difference in the tires. I never would have thought of it.

Welcome on the tip. Great lookin' car! I'm too terrified of breaking the suspension when it comes to building those. Great job!

Very well done, Buck. For someone who says that decals are their weak point, I can't see anything wrong with the decal job you did on this. How long ago did you do it?

I'm glad you did it Buck. It's good to stretch ones wings sometimes.
The car is I think the 2002 or 2003 McLaren and comparing it with the 2013 car, it looks positivley archaic!!! LOL

Excellent photos and a very nice build. Yes, along with paint troubles, decals are one of the last things that can go wrong. Quality of decals varies too so it's not always the builder's fault. Add complex curves and Micro Sol/Set to the mix and things can go very wrong. You did an excellent job and all decals look right to me, thanx!
