The Attempt 1 Empty The Attempt 1

This is the Attempt 1 Land Speed Racer driven by Mickey Thompson. The car raced in the D and E streamliner classes at the slat flats. It also held standing and flying start records from 1/8th mile to one mile in length. At one time the car held 23 speed records. The two engines used were both Pontiac Tempest 4 cylinder engines. The Tempest 4 cylinder engine was a 389 that was cut in half. This left a slanted low profile 4 cylinder for the light weight Tempest.

I have displayed it with the body off to show the chassis detail of the build. The car was also raced as the Attempt 2 with a Pontiac V8 but was never successful with that combination.
