1/12th ‘69 Camaro Z28
....and it’s done. Finishing a model to me is like a damp squib, I enjoy the chase of the build rather than the actual completion. I definitely have some mental problems !
Yep, the 1/12th scale ’69 Camaro is finished. As you see, I like race cars, and almost incapable of building anything else - especially with a UK slant ....but this one has an overseas twist.
The kit sat untouched for years before I found a set of Minilite wheels and tyres to fit this scale, which dictated it would be another circuit car. Very little forethought went into the build, and it all went with together with ideas changing day by day. The green, white and orange striping sparked the Irish ‘racing team’ theme, and the decals are largely Dublin based companies sponsoring a local privateer race car........which makes a change to just sponsoring rally cars !

I love it Ron.
Superb result all round. The red Minilites really suit it.
Love the Irish slant too, that will keep the 'Liddle Leprechaun' happy.

Thanks Al - at least I’ve recaptured my decal making skills.
Thanks Shay, I think ? ...there was an Irish girl at Art College that called me that - it wasn’t until years later did I find out what it meant.
I have photos of the engine, but they haven’t come out clearly to do the work justice.

Sorry Ron, thought I’d replied to this already.
Those wheels suit it well as with the colours.
The clovers are cool too, where did you get those from?

Re: 1/12th ‘69 Camaro Z28
Thanks - All home made decals Ash......I’m quite chuffed with them.
Shay : My Irish girlfriend’s parents came from south west Ireland, and she said it was a term of endearment - but when we broke up she translated it as I was ‘lovely, but weird’
Just a couple me pics.....the 1/12scale is big, but not as big as 1/8th.
......and the driver rides to work on a Ducati !

Re: 1/12th ‘69 Camaro Z28
You make your own decals that’s god tier!
I’ve got some paper and the decal sheet liquid but have no idea where to start.
I also scanned in a couple of actual decal sheets and printed them off to see if they came out actual size and they did.
I had one of my kids change the colour of a decal on a sheet and I was hoping to turn yellow back to white on an old sheet then print me some brand new ones off.
He could probs do it but teenagers like to do their own thing and aren’t really interested in helping old folks out, it’s too much effort. And the info I was supplied was poor. You have to do it individually, on this app then use this other app, that was as far as we got.
What type of printer do you need to make them?

Re: 1/12th ‘69 Camaro Z28
Morning Ash,
I just use a cheap HP home printer - but this is the first time I have used it for decals.
Plus....It doesn’t print white, I don’t think any do - they require an Alps printer, if they still produce them - that’s why mine look good on the off white base finish of the car. On Red, blue, or dark colours it doesn’t quite work.
I’m fortunate to still have my old software from my signwriting days on an old tower to draw up the designs to fit. On this car, I already had the ‘Smurfitt’ typestyle from when I did work for them when they opened a branch in West Auckland, a few miles away - the rest I had to draw up.

Re: 1/12th ‘69 Camaro Z28
They look good from here.
I have white decal sheets and clear so I need to remove the yellow.
Way back when I was on here before I bought literally everything I saw which looked good or may come in useful in future, I had money so I spent it.
Things like 1/24 electrical connectors which I can hardly see, never mind actually use, bike stuff that I don’t even know where it goes or what it does in real life ‘moto GP sensor’ for a bike doesn’t compute with me, like they don’t know if it’s a moto go or not so they have sensor for it .
And obviously some decal paper.
I think we’ve got an inkjet printer a HP one which we bought last year, is this the right type?

Re: 1/12th ‘69 Camaro Z28
I think mine is an inkjet, the cheapest that I could buy.
On these two models that I did for a friend, I printed on white decal sheets, and clear.
On the pickup, with the background being black, it blends in with the paint of the truck - whereas, with the race car I had to print out an outline onto the white and carefully cut around the lettering and fit to the car before overlaying a black print of the outline image on the clear sheet - letting the white show through.

Re: 1/12th ‘69 Camaro Z28
You can’t tell, looks like it was supposed to be like that.
I’ve got a Subaru left (the original blue one I killed the decals on), I was thinking Tommi Makinen livery as I’ve got access to a sheet from a Mitsubishi Evo 5 of Tommi Makinen.
It has red black silvery grey but also has white on 2 badges on the rear, doesn’t sound a simple task to me this, and potentially a lot of trial and error and decal sheets.

If your decal sheets are original, I see no real problem, except with the contours of the car.
I have copied decal sheets, but the end result is that the quality isn’t as good as the original, and of course laying red /white on clear decal sheets doesn’t work on metallic blue. Sadly. 🥴

Re: 1/12th ‘69 Camaro Z28
Bummer, I didn’t think they’d be as good as I wanted. The version I considered they actually did one slightly different livery and way easier to paint up. I wonder if I could make some of the templates with the sheet I’ve got and paint it instead.
Deal with that when I need too, few months yet

You seem more confident with masking and painting than I do - even though I have spent a lifetime doing it as a job.

The south west of Ireland is pretty much Cork and Kerry, they lie Ron, especially the girls! lol
Iontach actually means fantastic or there abouts, in my Dublin east coast Irish at least.

I quite understand some things said in one part of the UK can mean something else in another area - same goes, I guess in Eire ?

Eire? Do you call Germany Deutschland Ron?
We have different names you'd call someone in different parts of the country, but you'd know exactly what it meant.

If you were in Cork and you called someone a Langer, it would pretty much be fighting talk, depending on how you said it.
There was a small shop in Coventry called Langer Services, i think it was a phone repair place, but it cracked me up the first time I seen it. I had to explain it to Bernadette and she laughed louder than I did.
Sometimes things are just funny.
