Tamiya RC211v Telefonica
Hello!
According to the site the last time I was here was 2017 which makes sense as that when I stopped building.
Just before Christmas I spoke with Mr H who mentioned the site was still here and had activity! Beautiful, I’m back for however long until I quit model building again.
I started this in 2017 before i disappeared and finished it 2 days ago. It’s not ace but when it’s on my shelf I don’t see the crinkles.
I fitted magnets to the fairings many moons ago but found when I assembled it with the lower cowl on the magnets wearnt strong enough to hold the weight so I glued them on instead.
Thanks for looking, my next build I’ll make a nice background so it’s easier to see the fk ups

I like my bikes, big and small, and this model ticks a lot of boxes for me.
Decal work can make or break a model, and this one looks well carried out.
Excellent.

Cheers Ron, it’s a kit I built when I was way younger, the days when you just took it out of the box and glued as is. I managed to get hold of this, I’ve been putting it off for so long because of the decals

Looks great to me Ash.
Ron is right.... decal can make or break a model, which is why I think a lot of people are somewhat scared of them.
Me.... I love doing decals, I find the end result so satisfying.

Re: Tamiya RC211v Telefonica
That’s the reason I’ve ended up with so many back in the box. Last year I built the Italeri escort mk 2, painted the stripes didn’t use the decals then I ended up killing the sponsor side of things, a nice chap from a fb group sent me another set and I completed it, this is a very regular occurrence for me, paint looks nice then somehow I destroy it, either with clear or decals (generally decals)
I’ve accepted I’m not a model building god so I am gonna mess things up but instead of going through the pain of stripping paint and replacing decal sets I’m going to continue and try not to make the mistake again (They can always be moved once completed into a cupboard instead of on show)
I think someone told me in this group once. Try something new every build then you’ll have experience with everything and will learn what to do and what not to do during these processes (something like that anyway) so I’ve painted stripes, actually painted the window rubbers for a change, used magnets and dabbled with PE over the last few builds. Something else which will help me in the future and a strategy I’ve just adopted, use a spare decal off the sheet and test it on a spoon with some microset and some thin then thick clear, this was after a build which shrivelled up the badging and then went in the bin.. wasn’t fussed about the kit I just wanted to use up some of my stash.
Sorry for the essay

We’ve all been there at one time, or more !
...and those kits that don’t quite work out are not usually wasted, ending up as parts donors,
...and there is nothing in the rule book that says you have to finish a kit.....well that’s my mantra !
PS : I use a Sharpie Ultra Fine permanent marker to ‘paint’ in my window rubbers on cars/trucks
