Monogram 1/24 Scale "Cherry Bomb" Harley Re-do
I've had this on the corner on my desk for a while (years??). I've never liked the gas tank on this which was blocking me from putting it back together. I decided to scrap that "cherry" tank and throw one together myself ... so here we go:
In order to make the new tank, I cut out the basic shape multiple times out of plastic stock.
Then laminated them together:
Filed to rough shape, threw some putty at it, sanded, primed (repeated and repeated and repeated ...). A new bar made for the frame using a scrap drive shaft. Also, not going with the big sissy-bar look Tom Daniels originally designed.
Thanks again for all the looks and most importantly those who donate their time and abilities to make this community possible.

That was a clever idea. I wouldn't have thought to do it that way and would still be sitting at the bench trying to figure it out. Nice.

Thanks for all the comments and encouragement guys.
Up next, I guess I had to put the cart before the (Iron) horse was finished.
Though Tom Daniel's surf board...ish trailer would have worked, like the tank, it never grew on me.
In the junk box I had various parts from two Daniel's Paddy Wagon and the fenders caught my eye. I extended the floor board by combining two of the floor boards to the length of the red trailer.
Then cut out out the wheel holes from the red one. Interestingy, the front fenders from the 'wagon filled out nicely for the wheel tubs of the trailer.
Some more slicing to integrate the two parts, plastic stock and a lot of milluput filler and here is where I am at today.
I am contemplating narrowing it a bit and moving the fenders forward a bit.

Nice work Chris, I particularly like the scratched tank.

Some great modding! Love the way the tank turned out and the removal of the big sissy bar is definitely an improvement. The trailer mod is also looking good - the fender placement looks good but I support your thoughts on narrowing the whole a bit, it seems just a bit wide. Not really wide, mind you, it would definitely work in its current form.

Hi Mr S,
Looking good so far Sir, as the others have said, the tank tool so much better than the stock version, the trailer is also coming along nicely, just a though, if you left it the width as it currently is, you could make spaces for two extra bikes...

Thanks for all the comments and suggestions.
A brief update.
Looked for some tank art and am going to use the red and black "Z" off this spare sheet.
Added the tow bar to the trailer. I also decided to narrow it a bit and still have to re-add the fenders.
Thanks to all those who make this community possible and happy modeling.

Love the colour on the frame and trailer. The narrowing of the trailer definitely works, really gives it a sleeker look. The decal choice is also great, can't wait to see it on the tank.

The red and black should look great on that color frame.

Great progress! The decals on the tanks and rear fender suit the look perfectly. Is that a new trailer?

Re: Monogram 1/24 Scale "Cherry Bomb" Harley Re-do
Kats, the trailer is the one I started building by mashing the "Cherry Bomb" and "Paddy Wagon" kits earlier in the post. Its been narrowed with the fenders moved forward a bit and mounted on top of the deck; a tow bar made from plastic stock was added up front. The rear license plate was scrounged from a Petty Pontiac NASCAR bit. Still need the tail lights and finish the pintle and it'll be ready for paint.

Chris - thanks for the clarification. The trailer set up looks great and the 'floating fenders' are just the right touch.
