Calm before the storm.
A small vignette to see if I can rekindle the mojo. Comprising a Spitfire, pilots at rest and a small airfield shelter.
Ive never built in this scale so expect it to be rough, hats off to the guys on here who build and get superb results
with these tiny kits. I don't intend to use a lot of the etch as my electron microscope is away being cleaned lol.

Re: Calm before the storm.
A good start there, Gary. Looks like a very nice little package of PE detail.

Thanks Mike, the PE is brilliant but Im not sure if much of it adds any real value, and in any case it's too small for me. Perhaps in more skilled hands it could be justified. Ill cherry pick what I use based on visibility in the finished model. Im determined to have a good go at the open flaps though.

I'm following along with this Gary. You'll do a great job I'm sure despite the small scale.
The field shelter looks brilliant.

Cheers Al, it is great and the figures are incredibly details for their size.

Re: Calm before the storm.
Wow, what a way to get back to the bench.
It already looks great, especially given the scale.
As for the teeny PE, I used very fine tweezers, a magnifier and instead of using a metal pin for the CA application I sharpened a wood toothpick (the round kind) to as close to hair fine as I could get then soaked it with CA first before using it. Along the way you will need to re-sharpen the point. I've found that this allows for finer control over the CA, with a metal pin the stuff can glob from surface tension. Oh, and use thin or extra thin CA if you can.

Re: Calm before the storm.
A lot of slow work with tweezers, ultra fin brushes and a good magnifier, preferably one with a light. One plane that detailed is all you need. That model would be the star in any display.

Re: Calm before the storm.
What's that plastic putty like compared to the Isopon two part car filler?

Re: Calm before the storm.
Ive never used that Shay but the vallejo stuff is really good quite fluid and easy to work into small gaps, also doesn't crack when drying like others. I take the excess off with a damp cotton bud so sanding is hardly needed.

I have a chopped 32 5 window with slight lines left after filling in the roof pillars, this looks like what I need to fix it

Re: Calm before the storm.
It took me a while to uncross my eyes after the sympathetic reaction to the cockpit detailing photos, lol. Excellent work and "only about 90 tries" to get it properly affixed is kind of average for that sort of detailing.
Also - I totally agree with the turning prop mod. Not only does it give you the option of how you want it set up for display but it also helps to mitigate and breakage from unintended bumps and brushes.
Looking forward to seeing this develop.
