Lloyd CV Series 46 - 1/72 Special Hobby
Well it's on to another project, as if there aren't enough on the bench and in the WIP box.
This one's a unique aircraft that's of all wood veneer construction. It was used as a spotter/reconnaissance plane by both German and Austrian forces. Kit looks like excellent quality.
Very nicely molded parts with little flash or injection marks.
A few nice resin cast parts.
And some nice PE, including rigging turnbuckles, which should be a major challenge.
Decals and celluloid pieces.
Engine and cockpit installed.
Fuselage halves together and wood basecoat handpainted. A darker Brown will be kinda drybrushed over it.
So far it's fun.

Paul, unusual today, but in 1917 there were 150 of them in the air somewhere. LOL
Got the darker woodgrain (Espresso Brown) brushed on and some decals on. Also put the tail section together. There are a couple of spots on the fuselage that had to be lightly sanded - they'll be touched up after all decals are on.

Fabulous work! The tiny little details are great and the wood grain effect is fantastic.

Re: Lloyd CV Series 46 - 1/72 Special Hobby
Well, it didn't take long to run into a critical error. I was concentrating on the joint gap between the lower wing and fuselage when glueing them on and did not allow the proper elevation of the lower wings (something you must rremember with lower wings in halves). I found that out when I had the struts attached and tried to fit the top wing. The cabane struts kept the wing from sitting on any of the low wing struts!
I removed the cabane struts, attached the wing and will scratch the rest to fit.
Oh crap!

I can't imagine the size of those turn buckles in 1:72 Mike, they must be microscopic. Good luck with them.
It's interesting that the wings were shaped like bird wings too and I believe this aircraft pretty much brought an end to the veneer covered wings era.
Nice work on the graining. It's going to look great.

So far, the design (bird-like) and your super paint work make it a work of art. Something like 20 tiny turnbuckles . . . take your time. It IS a beautiful project and more so because it's so small!

Re: Lloyd CV Series 46 - 1/72 Special Hobby
Well, I decided to not include the 1/72 turnbuckles. As I said earlier, there were not enough to do all the points that needed them. According to the instructions, they only showed the lower(visible) points treated that way, which according to all photos I've seen isn't right. Besides that, they're just as thin as fine EZ-Line and only 2mm long which would probably prove a major headache.
So, it's now called complete.
Thanks for looking.
