Re: Lotus 72C dual build
Tamiya in the early days, thinking of the early F-1 Honda (Richie Ginther?) and others, had so-so quality and detail. They improved steadily until maybe the Porsche 956 "Rothman's" when maybe cost and profits caused a detail reduction. I was surprised in all the Tamiya scales small companies have created photo etched parts (very pricey) to bring out better details.
I really enjoy this build, thank you!

Re: Lotus 72C dual build
Thanks guys.
I've seen reviews of this kit that claim it is well up to Tamiya's current F1 car standards..... all I can say to that is, they must be living on the planet Zarg.
IMO, apart from better exhaust manifolds, this kit has major problems considering it retails at £44.00 here in the UK. I'll do a build review when I have it completed.
When I attatched the wheels, the front right was in the air like a Hopping Hydro!!! Careful checking revealed that the engine/trannie fit was out of alignment. The large central locator has a lot of play in it and I'd failed to pick up on that. So I had to strip all the suspension back off (requiring stripping and re-painting) CUT the trannie from the engine and re-build the whole bloody lot!!!! Very un-funny from such an expensive kit.!!
Even after re-alignment the front right is still slightly off the deck.
The windscreen cowl decal looks to be the hardest to apply so I did that first. In the end it wasn't as hard as I thought. It's not laid down perfectly but at least it's a pretty good colour match to the monocoque.
Cowl is just laid on for effect.

Re: Lotus 72C dual build
Despite all the problems with the cassis not being flat, I think it is a good looking model. You are doing a bang up job on it.

Re: Lotus 72C dual build
First off.....my apologies to Al for not sticking with this one when we both started. But I am back at it. The Wed nite buddy build sessions are now dedicated to finishing stalled builds. So last week I got the kit out and started my plan of attack.
Instead of using the kit decal to do the cockpit surround, I choose to paint it.
Front suspension is half way done
I also got the main engine/trans pieces painted and assembled
And the beginnings of the nose decals.
