Once again out of my comfort area with aircraft ...

Elaine pushed this into my hands at the LMS as it's another of her favorite aircraft

Its pretty basic but well up to Tamiya standards for moulding and fit etc

Lucky guy!

I wish someone would push models into my hands instead of acting like I was pulling teeth when I bought them.

Hi Colin,

I'm not really a model aircraft fan, but if it's ok with you I'd like to tag along please...

Nice choice of kits. Someone has CLASS! I built the ESCI 1/72 one of the
Royal Navy in gray over white scheme from the Falkland Islands days. Watching
this one, good subject matter.---John

She has no interest in the building side of the hobby John, just the "viewing the end result"

The cockpit is a little lacking in detail so i added some belts and painted some dials so it looks a little better through the glass
1/48 Royal Navy Sea Harrier Sam_2610

The turbine is again lacking in detail really, there's an option to have a removable panel on the top of the aircraft so you can see the turbine, i've decided to button it all up and the only bit you'll see is the silver fan and the red interior of the canopy when looking through the front vents
1/48 Royal Navy Sea Harrier Sam_2611

This is all it took to get it all lined up, not too bad fitting at all really
1/48 Royal Navy Sea Harrier Sam_2612

Got the underslung pods on and the wheel door flaps etc as these will all be the same white as the underside, the vents and cockpit area are all masked off ready for paint, going to use rattle cans.

Wheels and stabilisers done .... and the bombs are under way too

Wow!!! That's a lot of clamps Colin. Looks like you had a fair bit of filloing to do. (unusual for Tamiya methinks) Looks like you have it sorted though! 1/48 Royal Navy Sea Harrier 1705482731

I have a 1:48 GR3 in the stash, so I'll be watching!! popcorn

Yes Al ... it seemed evry clamp I added needed another to correct its "pull" or "squeeze"

The filling was only necessary where the removable panel lay in its recess ...other than that it is definitely normal Tamiya quality

Well i've totally failed with the updates ......... this kit was so easy to build and virtually fell together...
got it sprayed and thought "i'll just add all the extras" then is wasn't two minutes before i thought " i'll just add the decals and tidy the extra paintwork up" ... that was it ..built!!!

I had one issue ... the decals didn't conform to some areas and even with a bit of help with some homemade decal fixer they were wrinkled, also some just fell apart sliding them off the backing (minimum time in the water too) so a bit of variation was applied to the positioning of some

I'm quite pleased with it though as it's out of my comfort zone, spraying models isn't my thing, i'd rather hand paint them

The main thing is that Elaine likes it ... nuff said

The finished model looks great Colin.

What is it you have against spray painting?

Thanks Al

I dont have anything against spraying, I would just rather hand paint ... i suppose because I normally build military or older vehicles that have a fair bit of weathering and so, to me, its a waste of time getting a pristine finish just to mucky it up lol
Plus I really had enough of airbrushes when I did touchup, murals and artwork on everything and anything customers wanted.
