Jaguar XJ220
Tamiya's 1:24 Jaguar XJ220.
For this build I used micro mesh after every coat to try and get the ultimate finish. I used Tamiya's Pure white.
I used a set of custom racing wheels. Maybe they were the wrong choice as I don't think they suit it too well.
The engine needed some scratch made parts as usual.
Seat belts added, carpets installed and super detailed the dash.

Nice model, and very well done as we've come to see from your work.
Shouldn't the drivers mirror be on the wing not the door though.

Re: Jaguar XJ220
I had to double check that Snake. No, they are in the correct place. You had me worried there.

Update:
Snake, i've just double checked. You're right, the drivers mirror should be on the wing. I have made a schoolboy error. Thank you for pointing that out. What a blunder.

Yes, I realise that now. See my edit above. I think I need to pay more attention in future.

Re: Jaguar XJ220
No worries mate, I tried to word my post as "information" rather than " pedantic", didn't want to come across as a rivet counter (thanks Ash..... Now go and paint a bonnet lol).
Was the position determined by tamiyas instructions?
As an aside a lot of people didn't like the odd mirrors and repositioned them either both on the wing or door.... I would imagine if you have the cash to pay for the car you could afford the upgrade eh.
I say again though, your model is great and I'm a big fan of your detailing skills.

Re: Jaguar XJ220
Well, the thing is, I tend to work off photos as much as the instructions but looking back at the instructions, it is'nt obvious during the construction that is should be offset, but the final page where it points out decals you can see that it is indeed offset. Perhaps they should have made a note for it and as for the photographs I used, I just didn't notice. Well spotted.

Re: Jaguar XJ220
I masked off the outside of the glass totally, then masked off parts underneath leaving the edges using many bits of tape then sprayed black on the underside to get the straight borders, then I masked the whole thing except the sunroof underside and sprayed it carefully with smoke. Then I masked off all of the underside and most off the top to get the black stripe over the roof. I finished the curves by hand. Overall it was quite a lot of faffing about in the end.

Re: Jaguar XJ220
It is simply "WOW!" Looks absolutely 1:1 real. I can't say enough good. Tamiya is the best, but since the '80s when they issued the Rothman's Porsche, there's been reduction in some detailing to save on cost. The turbos on this one aren't the best. You really did well on engine paint, including the exhaust bluing. Thanx for impeccable construction and equally good fotos!

Thank you for that. My goal is always attention to detail and neatness bordering on OCD.
Now if only I could find some of the imagination and inspiration you always seem to come up with.

Re: Jaguar XJ220
Visa versa for me H. I admire and appreciate well built and superbly detailed kits such as the ones you build. Someone who builds such as yourself and many other on here are inspiration for me.
My MO has always been to build something different that I personally won't get board of looking at on the shelf, and to inspire others. I guess that is where my inspiration for the ideas for my builds originate from.
My goal is to build with your attention to detail,(OCD is a good thing) combined with my "flare". I tend to build shelf models, they look good on the shelf. I will be satisfied when I build closer to a consistancy of show quality.
