USS Allen M Sumner

I recently started this kit, a Pitroad 1/700 scale model of the USS Allen M Sumner. This was the first destroyer of a class that was built during the war. I am using Lifecolor paints applied with a paint brush. The kit is small enough to do this and the quality of the paint is good. This one is being built with no extras, should be a quicky like Al's Celica.

That's a busy looking ship and a lot of detail for something just over 6 inches, they look a decent manufacturer.

I shall sit here and be impressed again!

That's an interesting ship Chris and the camo really breaks up the shape, particularly on the bridge!!

Are you going to set in a 'heavy seas' base, as per box art?

Good looking ship, Chris. I'm not familiar with Lifecolor paints. When you brush paint large areas like the deck, do you do it in one coat or 2 lighter coats? I've been doing some ships lately and I'm doing it in 2 light coats, using Model Master Acryl or Tamiya.

I might have done lol........  Then I googled it and did some mathematronics to make sure I didn't look like a plonka!!

Thanks Mike. Everything is usually done in two coats. I also use a primer although in years past I applied Tamiya acrylic without it. Lifecolor are Italian, they produce two separate box sets of US naval colours of WW2, a total of twelve colours. They spread nicely with a paint brush.

No. I will eventually photograph it on a water base, the same one I use for all of my boats. It will eventually sit on a shelf with my other US destroyer collection. I spent this year mainly filling in 'holes' in my collection, such as building German ships and ships representing other US destroyer classes.
