Hi New To Building Models in TN

You'll find us a great bunch of nut heads to hang out with and lot's of good model builders to help you along the way.

Best advice is to walk away now, while you can. Modelling is seriously addictive. You have been warned!!!   

Seriously though, modeling is a great hobby and the guys here will all be more than willing to help in any way they can. Just ask any questions you want, no matter how stupid you think they are. Remember, there are NO stupid questions, just stupid answers and if you do get a stupid answer, tell arni or dublinboy and they'll send the 'boy's' to see the guy!!! LOL

Apart from 'when in doubt, ask' the best advice I can give you is to start simple: with aircraft I'd recommend 1:48 scale to begin with as 1;72 scale camo can be difficult to paint while 1:32 scale can be difficult to assemble. 1:48 scale is a good compromise IMO.

Also, don't as yet, be tempted by all the photo etch stuff you can get for aircraft, it's not the easiest stuff to use. Wait until you have a lot more experience.

Choose a simple aircraft to begin with and avoid bi-planes. Aligning the wings can be a bear and they look much better with rigging, which is also not easy.

Try to choose an aircraft with a simple paint scheme such as this:

The upper/lower fuselage demarcation line was simply masked of with Blu Tak. Easy peasy. The upper side/under side of the wings wasn't masked at all. Just airbrushed.

This one by Tamiya would be a good starting point IMO. Good quality, good fit, simple paint scheme:

I agree with Al, 1/48 is a good scale. I've got several aircraft to build, but don't feel like planes ATM. More into cars. And for the next few weeks,
a 1:1 car I'm struggling with.

Fewer of our members are "military" than the military forums, but, here goes.  Depending on whether you have an air brush or not, camo patterns can be easy or hard.  I suggest going to You Tube and watching all the 'plane vids you can.  Military forums will likely have more "how to" tutorials also.
  To me, beginning with WWII and later planes are easier and 1/72 is a good scale as smaller means fewer things to detail with paint  and fewer parts to lose. If a model is messed up, 1/72 with lower prices hurts less too.  Try some jets as since many kits have them in silver with decals for designation.  That way you can try it without spending too much up front on paints, kit, tools, and they build faster and you can practice techniques (assembly order, different types of paint, decal application and products.

Welcome DJ. Sounds like you have already gotten some good advice. The only way to enjoy modeling is to just do it. Thinking about modeling is not much fun.
