Gilmore Auto Museum

Alive and well, just have modeling on the back burner.
Some of you may remember my building a model of my friend, Larry's Willys pro street coupe.
Well, Larry has commissioned me to do a drawing of the car for his wife's (Linda) new office at the Gilmore Car Museum.

Larry has been very active as a volunteer at Gilmore for quite a few years. Linda has just been appointed to the museum's management staff.

I'll be stoked to have some of my work there, even if it is back in one of the offices !!!

Larry has gotten the drawing framed and hanging on Linda's office wall. I can now brag that I have a work in the Gilmore Automotive Museum in Michigan !!

Very nicely done, and you're a recognised, commission ready artist now Clay.

The web site is very interesting, a few cars were unknown to me, like the pacer.

That foyt indy 500 is a stunner, it's a shame our F1 cars don't look similar to that anymore.

Been looking at the drawing again Clay.

You, know, you should have a go at selling your drawings on eBay. They are certainly worthy of selling at a good price.

You could even advertise there for commission work too. I for one would be proud to have a Clay Gratz on my wall.

Been there, did that Skid.
Over the years I have discovered that only if you're established and well known you can produce any piece of art, crap or not, and your signature will sell it. Other than that. it's a tough sled to promote and sell, even for peanuts.
Only art work that I was able to ever make even  pocket change on, was when I did some sign painting. (years ago).
Retired from the factories, I  dabbled in Bonsai (my other long term hobby) themed artworks for a modest extra income, but I've lost the passion for even that. (old and lazy)
I gave Wisdon one of the few leftover reproductions from that era when he visited me.
The piece for Larry was for our long lasting friendship..

Makes sense that "the name" sells the art. I've seen Ed Roth doing shirts with an air brush at a large car show once. Still, if there are local car shows at annual fests in your area and there are vendors, it could be an easy weekend of work and good promoting of your obvious talent. Fla. DOES have a few well-moneyed car nuts.
