Re: AMT Olds NASCAR
Rolling! Went crazy & used an aftermarket dizzy & wiring. Window net is masking tape. Ditto harness, with some PE leftovers from the dizzy, and some BMF. Cage padding is heat shrink, no heat. Slit it where I had to & PVA glued it in place.
One mistake I followed the instructions, not my instinct, and fitted the barwork behind the driver with the diagional bracing runs in the wrong direction. Too bad. It's glued in too well to move now.
Since the pic, I've fitted the dash, wheel & column & more bracing. I'll have to shave the cross member some to get header clearance, me thinks.

I think it looks great! The NASCARS from the model companies were good right out of the box. Careful work and things like realistic window net and engine details make modelers proud! Great so far! Good luck with the finish!

Re: AMT Olds NASCAR
That's looking real good Chris. Any chance of s closer photo of the engine bay please?
I know what you mean, I'm the same way.
How about spraying the wheels and tyre sidewalls with some dull coat. It will give an alloy finish to the wheels and also dull the tyres. Just a thought.
I've kept the wheels chrome- not accurate, but I hate the look of black wheels. I like a clear boundry 'twixt tyre & rim. wrote:

I never build exact replicas - I just have to add my own personal touches.
However, I admire those that stick strictly to the original cars as well.
It's all about individual taste and having fun in the build, isn't it.

That is a fabulous looking chassis. Looks like you could skin it out and go racing. 001

Very nice, I like the window netting too and the alternator looks great. It's hard to go wrong with the well detailed out-of-the-box quality NASCAR kits of the era! Thanx!

Yep, the AMT NASCARs were a good kit. All the ones I've built have minimal flash, nice soft plastic that sands/cuts easily & cleanly.
Good engine detail too.
The alternator is box stock, cleaned up & Dullcoted. As Al sugggested, I did think of dull coating the wheels but couldn't resist the bling
factor of chrome.
What can I say, I'm a sucker for chrome. On models and full scale.
The lines to the filter & cooler are plumbed, waiting for the glue to dry & a touchup. Then, Al you'll get your engine photo.
Cheers,
Chris

Re: AMT Olds NASCAR
I'm totally ignorant on NASCAR lore, so I can't tell if this is the same kit I picked for a coupla bucks, years ago, and built. Been waiting to see a finished foto.

Re: AMT Olds NASCAR
Ditto from me on the engine.
The paint looks great Chris. It will rock with the decals on.

Re: AMT Olds NASCAR
Thanks guys. Polished it out today, & started the decals. I need some microsol so it will be a while yet.
Got plenty to go on with. As well as the '55 Chev, '50 Olds & the Chev van, there's a '53 Belair, 2004 GTO/Monaro & a '56 Nomad to knock over.

Getting there. About half the decals are on, windsreen in and it's off the table for a day while the
PVA dries.
Going past a hobby store on the weekend so some setting solution might make me detour.
