Re: Mitsubishi Lancer WRC, Heller 1/24
currently on the back burner for a while
had a bad paint experience on the body shell...........for some reason the primer didnt take as well as i thought.
i primed, sprayed white lowers, masked, sprayed the red and when i removed the tape it peeled the paint right off back to the plastic
so i decided to strip the paint, try washing the shell again and try a different primer
i gave it a long soak in oven cleaner which normally does the trick and it didnt even touch it, even tho i can sratch the paint off with a finger nail! weird................so until i can pick up some brake fluid this one is on hold............but im not going to let it get the best of me lol

Beowulf try fairy power spray that usualy does the trick at removing paint. Then what I usualy do if it,s being a pig is use a isolator primer as it self etches to plastic like it does to coachpaint (oil based) once that,s dry you can use any top you want.

Re: Mitsubishi Lancer WRC, Heller 1/24
Whether it rates as a "good" kit or not depends on if it's a rare car and how much detail u want. For a curbside model (no engine, undetailed undercarriage, etc.)it can still fill a valuable slot in a collection. Heller and Esci disappointed me back when I was building, but filled voids in my race car "want" list. Good luck with the paint. Sometimes it's best to find a good, universal primer and stick with it for plastic.

It looks good Paul.
Heller kits may be simple but they can turn out looking good.

The chassis looks great. The seats look particularly good, with the belts and carbon fiber!

Re: Mitsubishi Lancer WRC, Heller 1/24
so here we go again
stripped the shell of paint with brake fluid, scrubbed it with water and degreaser to make sure it was as clean as possible
used a new can of primer, which was a very dark grey so as not to get the same problem as last time
my masking of the white wasnt as neat as it could have been but i dont think its going to matter in the long run as its going to get muddied up
its had a couple of coats of clear ready for the decals

I like the dark red. I see on the instructions, "Michelin" decals go on tires, and that's a plus. Thanx!

Re: Mitsubishi Lancer WRC, Heller 1/24
im at the decal stage
this has to be the biggest POS kit ive done for a very long time, if it wasnt for the fact im doing it for a GB somewhere id have binned it long ago
even the decals are a bit dodgy but im determined to finish it.............im actually looking forward to plastering mud all over it to hide all the crapness!

Re: Mitsubishi Lancer WRC, Heller 1/24
decals done, some of which wrinkled! the ones that should have gone on the tyres just were not going to play the game, cos they were going onto rubber i think, i like the Tamiya way of having rub on ones
panel wash done, spread a bit more than i wanted
the remaining bits added so techically its 'finished'
but i intend on muddying this up which will hide a lot of the things which are annoying me, so i have took some more pics just in case it all goes a bit Pete Tong
now the fun begins
