MPC '72 Pontiac Goat

Not satisfied at finishing one kit today in the form of the '32 Ford Roadster,
I’ve finished another : MPC’s 1972 Pontiac GTO.

This kit is obviously moulded from a promo, as the chassis and engine detail is not that great
- so I built it as a kerbside, cementing the bonnet shut, and painting it in (sorry) Ford Purple Velvet Metallic,
it’s turned out okay, and makes a welcome change from another Ford or Chevy.

The Pontiac’s proportions are good, apart from the rear bumper that I had to narrow to look right
and the wheels and tyres come from my spares box.
It might not be perfect and I could have spent more time detailing and engine swapping,
but I’m quite satisfied with it how it looks now.
Incidently the plates are from one of my Lambretta SX150’s, that was stolen in 1981
- technically they are about a year out, but hey, who’s counting?



 

Finishing models has now created a problem - I need a glazed cabinet in which to show them off,
instead of returning the models and hiding them away in their boxes.
Maybe a visit to Ikea is due, or the local DIY?

Color looks right at home on it. Super nice build.

Ikea do a nice display cabinet for £40 Ron. I have four now and will shortly need another one. It's possible to DIY double the shelf space to if you wish.

I have had a soft spot for scooters since the '60's, and owned dozens since, as well as bigger bikes.
Currently I'm restoring a rare 1962 Bianchi Orsetto in my garage that was sold in the UK
as a Raleigh Roma, and in the States as a Riverside.

The other soft spot is my bad back, from the poor ergonomics of a modern scooter I purchased in June this year.
I recently sold it for peanuts and I'm going in for exploratory surgery on 6th.January.
I hope the Junior Doctors have sobered up after the Yuletide celebrations by then.

A "You Tube" of the song "The In Crowd" from the Who's Quadrophenia film has a bunch of scooters ridden be the 1960s Mods." That one would need Mod-ification with a bunch of rear view mirrors and chrome to belong!

Ohhh yes ...Mirrors, Lights and Tank Antennas! Been there and done that in 1965.
....moved onto to Barrel swaps. Amal Carbs and Expansion Boxes to squeeze out more speed
Being two stroke engines, they don't go fast for long - but didn't stop us from trying again !

This was my last Malossi tuned PX Vespa I put together about eight years ago.
of course, it went 'BANG!'

Beautiful paint on the car! Glad to see another scooter enthusiast here! I grow up with Vespas and Lambrettas, a the beginning with small frame Vespas, like Special atc, but modified engine from 50cc to 102, 130, bigger exhaust, etc, a lot of fun!!! The small frame/50cc cannot go over 45km/h in Italy, so was kind of a pain and we moved up with the 125cc engine Vespa, better and more comfortable on trips. Also we found a club that still exist and runs strong, we organize and go to several meeting around Italy. :) The oldest Vespa we have is a 1956, the newer a 1989, we also have a 1957 Lambretta. Two Vespas are for racing only and not street legal, and one is only for go in the snow, and not street legal. :D
If you still have the Vespa I will send you decals from our club! :)

Unfortunately, I no longer have the Vespa - just the old Bianchi.
