English Model Y Ford Empty English Model Y Ford

Post by Guest Sat 07 Sep 2013, 2:52 pm

Just to prove I do finish some of my models, here is a pic of my rendition of a modified English Model Y Ford.
...although I finished it way back in 1997, and was featured in 'Street Machine' here in the UK.
For the base I used the ill proportioned AMT '34 Ford Tudor body, which I cut, chopped, shortened and filled,
then fitted an altered floorpan and wings. Steering converted to Right Hand Drive.
I then chopped up the bonnet and grille from the Monogram ZZ Top Eliminator coupe,
and added wheels/trims from the Monogram 53 Chevy.
Scalewise the car is more to 1/20th due to the smaller dimensions of English cars of the '1930's
...still got it,even though it is a bit dusty.

I remember "Small Talk" in Street Machine well, I cut out all the articles out and have them in an old cardboard folder. No cut and paste back in the day...

Was it still the great Terry Ross then, or had the new geezer, I think Richard Coney was his name taken over the column?

Unfortunantly I don't have the issue with that car, It would have been a bit mad if I had pics of it! LOL

Yep, it was Richard Coney, - I met him a few times at the Knebworth Hot Rod Supernationals.
I've got the original article - somewhere. I'll see if I can dig it out

Sometimes a lotta work results in a model that doesn't look much altered. That's fine as long as the real builders know the facts! Thanks for the fotos and information.

Nice conversion DAD. It looks just like the real deal.

The Model Y is a real favourite of mine but with just around 175,000 made in six year, you rarely see them around to-day. Even at shows.

...a lot of Model Y's ended up in the stock car stadium Alan, - sad to say I remember personally a few going that way.

..well I can't find that copy of Street Machine, I can only assume that my son has it, as the article also featured a '34 Ford Coupe of his too.
I did come across this write-up in November 1996 covering the 'Small Talk' show at Knebworth that year, and includes another model of my sons
(we were very competitive back then). It featured an AMT 5 window coupe body on an altered funny car chassis with 6 pot Jaguar engine.
He still has it in his loft 'man-cave'

Very pretty with a Jaguar 6! Somewhere on Google images I saw a Jag 12 with 6 carbs in a drag car, very cool too!

Jag 12 with six carbs? - a big headache to balance. It's bad enough with 2 carbs on a four pot!!

Ahh - found that article : Street Machine, July 1997. The Model Y is there, and so is my sons '34 Ford Coupe.
Sorry about the quality - a new digital camera will be arriving shortly.

I wonder how old this is in model car years, it is a great looking model and to still have it looking so good after all this time just shows how well you built it...

Mind if I ask, how much have your modelling techniques changed over the years...

Thanks! - the late 90's was my last big bash into modelling before I went onto building full size cars.
(and working 70 hours a week in my business)
I have dabbled occasionally with the odd kit, but now I'm back into it again.
I have noticed a change in modelling, particularly with paint, and know I still have a lot to learn.
