Indeed, DAF’s were popular here in the UK, to some extent, and yes they were just as fast in reverse as they were going forwards.
They were classed as automatics, in a time when 95% of cars in the UK were all ‘stick-shifts’, as you chaps in the colonies refer to them. 😁

As a former forklift driver, I'd put my money on anyone with a forklift licence here.

Mate of mine had a early '90s whitegoods/ appliance (Camry) and swore he could get up to 90 ks in reverse, and it upshifted.
