Re: Porsche 917 KH (Short tail)
It looks to be good kit overall, with plenty of parts.
However, it's not all hunky dory.
The lower and upper body are seperate parts but the sills need to be painted the same colour. No problem there but this bit does not exist on the 1:1 so is going to have to be sanded off before painting, then the lower and upper body parts glued together.
No biggie but I'm sure Revell could have done better.

Looks good though Al....tiny details matter, even if they will be hard to see.

Re: Porsche 917 KH (Short tail)
Thanks all.
I got the rear bulkhead painted, detailed and installed.
The instructions call for the various boxes to be either satin black or iron grey. As they are extremley difficult to see once the front end of the body is installed, I decided to paint them in lighter colours. Even so ,the are very difficult to see.
I decided just to do the faces of the boxes, as my old arthritic hands are no longer up to painting the sides of such small details.
The kit as it comes is curbside and virtually everthing behing the rear bulkhead, cannot be seen when the rear body is closed up.
I did have an engine transkit for it but it seems bags 1 and 2 have gone missing! ?????
So...... when the time comes I will permanently close the front and rear bodywork.

Re: Porsche 917 KH (Short tail)
Thanks Ron.
Being away from modelling makes you forget stuff, like in what order to do things.
In this case, the sills have to be painted in the body colour...... so what does bozo here do...... he sprays the entire lower bodywork in silver, DOH!!, resulting in the need for some complicated masking to achieve the same result!!!!

Re: Porsche 917 KH (Short tail)
That's what I thought Ron when I bought it.
When I looked at the decals I noticed that the strpes have carrier film between them so the stripes stay perfectly in line.
Well done revell!!

We know you seem to have the knack to fitting decals Al, a skill many would wish they had. They looked like they could be fiddly.
But I think I need my eyes testing....I’m seeing double !

Re: Porsche 917 KH (Short tail)
Just after I applied the last clearcoat before decals, I somehow dropped the front bodywork onto the carpet, with the resultant 'fluffy' mess.
Four days in brake fluid, followed by four days in Dettol (recommended by a friend) and then another four days in Fairy Power Spray recommended by Shay (dublinboy) and this is where I am at. It will eventually come off I'm sure but is going to take a while yet methinks.

Re: Porsche 917 KH (Short tail)
Oh boy! I think I should just give up modelling. Just as things started to go well again on this one.... DISASTER strikes again.
Now I can't find the flaming decals sheet. I mean how is it possible to loose it???
Anyway, I've emailed Revell of Germany for a replacement set but as their email says....
"Thank you for contacting the Revell spare parts service.
With this e-mail we would like to confirm the receipt of your request.
Please note that processing your service request may take some time.
In the meantime, please be patient and do not create another service ticket.
With kind regards
Carrera Revell Europe GmbH"
......it could be quite a while before I hear back from them.
Ah well.

Re: Porsche 917 KH (Short tail)
Could easily be the first car from the factory before it got the sticky stickers Al.
Build it, you can add them later, you never clearcoat racing car decals anyway.
Go on ya good ting!
