Willys Jeep ?
The local Scouts hold a Jumble Sale in the Village Hall every few months, and this morning I popped in while passing. What is generally on offer are children’s toys, books and bric-a-brac - very little of personal interest. However, I did pick up this magazine for £1, complete with 1/8th Jeep grille and lights. Could this be the start of my next 1/8th scale scratchbuild ?

You could probably build something with less.

Re: Willys Jeep ?
I’ve already started printing out drawings and scaling them to 1/8th Sam - and with very few compound curves it looks like it might be worth a go.
I believe these die-cast vehicles, if bought on monthly subscription would eventually cost UK buyers almost £1,300 - some complete jeeps are currently on Ebay for £800-900.
With the US dollar almost the same value as a £1 these days it’s fairly easy to translate the cost.

Too short a wheelbase to be safe, in my opinion Shay - you’d have to be completely bonkers to run one and expect to get to the line without risk of injury, or at the very least coming back home with the car in one piece.
It would certainly be entertaining to watch though.

Re: Willys Jeep ?
You can’t steer with wheelie bars when things get out of shape. Nope not for me. Drastically lowered with wheel tubs could work.
As it is very unlikely that I’d be able to source the military pattern tyres for this project, so if I do decide to built, it’ll be different.

You're going to be stuck for big scale parts in fairness Ron.
I have a mate in Detroit selling his stash soon, he has a few 1/8 scale kits.

Re: Willys Jeep ?
Mmmm....I think I could knock up most parts for this build - apart from the wheels and tyres, but I could possibly buy RC items that would fit - but they wouldn’t make this a stock military vehicle.
Finding space for more big scale is running short in my abode, which is the major problem with building stuff like this. 1/25th scale models can be squirrelled away in cupboards and boxes, but then every hobby has it’s drawbacks.

Re: Willys Jeep ?
Interesting. Although the wheel needs work to look scale, but I honestly haven’t seen better so far for this build.
It also shows that 3D printing needs a lot of sanding to achieve a good finish. I was considering buying a 3D printer some time ago, but was put off not only by the cost, but the finish, and the excessive time these things took to produce a single item.
