1/8th 1962 Jaguar E type FHC - mini build thread
I bent the rules with the ‘66 Corvette Goodwood racer, but here’s another contender for the Revival races - 1962 FHC Jaguar E type, which would probably fail the entry because of the non period wheels.....
This is the second Jaguar that I have built in this scale, and another £100+ Ebay ‘bargain’, but in as new condition. An inspiration for this build is the famous ‘Cut7’ E type racer that often runs at the Revival.
This was an easy start, with all parts already there - but the car needed to be changed to right hand drive.
After a clean up the chassis was painted silver, while the body got a coat of BMW Liquid Blue metallic. The chrome wire wheels were swapped for magnesium alloys in Dark Metallic grey. Later the body had a light blue racing stripe added. The only body modifications were a hood scoop to carbs, and deletion of the bumpers.

The engine got the full works for the addition of electrical wiring, fuel and brake lines. The big air cleaner was binned in favour of a slimmer ram air box. Battery is scratchbuilt - with alloy heatshield.
The interior received a strengthened roll bar, no carpets, and the usual additional switchgear.

Superb work yet again Ron.
This is why many people shy away from the larger scales, so much detail can be added. That, and where to display them.
Do do you make your own cases, or purchase them. I made an inexpensive, $15 display case, by turning a fish tank upside down with a wood base for the 1/8 bobtail t that I built. It barely fit width way, so I have no idea if it will fit anything else.

Thanks Sam - yes storage is a problem, I ‘m almost running out of room in my cave.
Yep, I make my own cases - just simple affairs using clear plastic sheet and 90degree plastic PVC edging mitred at the corners, glued with industrial pipe glue.
Plastic sheet can be cut/scored and snapped to give a clean line, but also means you can make them to fit your model.
Hardest bit is masking the framework to paint it black once it’s all together. Base is painted plywood or MDF.

I will have to try that. Sounds fairly straightforward.

Here I am - being blasé about making display cases, and I Baby-up my latest box.
Made from the offcuts I had, all went well, except I had no satin black to paint the frame - so did it in hammered silver.
Unmasking today I found lots of paint creep, with adhesive on the clear, and a couple of small spider cracks in the top glazing. I simply should have taken more care.....no other excuses. I’ll still use it, but it is a little disappointing.

I am sure you have already gone this route, but can you paint the frame material before construction?
