My old ‘32 HighBoy Roadster.
The different guises of my old 1/8th right-hand drive 1932 Ford High-Boy roadster.
Originally bought in 1994 this Monogram kit was built basically stock, sans fenders and painted in one of the trend colours of the day : Aqua Turquoise Blue. It was displayed at the 1995 Knebworth Hot Rod Supernationals ‘Small Talk’ model kit competition - but there were no prizes for me....but my son won the top spot for Under 16 class with his ‘Top Cat’ Altered.
The ‘32 model sat in my loft for years, too big to display, until one day while handling it, it fell apart because the plastic had become brittle. The body broke in half and the front axle snapped, so it was time for a rebuild. I decided to keep the old colour as a link to it’s history and rebuild it as a barn find by adding a few minor rusty sores and a few different wheel styles, a full bonnet, and a convertible hood. 29 years on, I’ve still got it !

Re: My old ‘32 HighBoy Roadster.
Love it Ron. Particulaly in the second photo.
Just one thing which I assume is down to Monogram. The soft top looks a bit 'metal like'. However, I actualy think it looks great. Even a little 'steampunk'

Thanks Al,
The original hood of this kit is a little odd in that it doesn’t quite work with a slightly chopped screen - so I have tried to create a more coupe look, emulating the type in the photo.
But yes, I’m not quite happy with it either, and it needs a much more softer look - it’s one of those things where I promised myself to remake it next week....but several years have passed since.
It’s going on my next to-do list.

Another beauty Ron. Love how you recreated a nice "patina" paint job. It really adds to the build. I'm with you, a softer looking top would put it over the "top".
You keep doing this to me. In the last pic, and in one on another thread, you include a picture that gives a hint that you have T-buckets as well as '32s.

Ah yes, Small Talk, the model car page Terry Ross used to write in Street Machine back in the 80's Ron?
Fabulous work as usual man.

Re: My old ‘32 HighBoy Roadster.
Thanks Shay, .....I remember Terry Ross. The Street Machine ‘Small Talk’ pages were what I used to look at first, back then, but when Richard Coney was the man at the helm.
I got almost a whole page to my whitewall tyre and flame decal products that I produced and sold mail-order or my stall.
My son also won the year before too, with a little help with the lettering, but not much else.

Re: My old ‘32 HighBoy Roadster.
Kudos on your sons builds getting published, that is an honor indeed of the quality. Does he still build?
And where are pics of the rest of your 1/8 builds ?

Re: My old ‘32 HighBoy Roadster.
Sadly, my son doesn’t build models anymore. Soon after he won these awards he found out about girls.
He’s now 43, married 10 years, and I have 2 grandsons !
