1955-1960 Alpha Romeo Giulietta Spider (Italeri)
An Italeri kit from what looks like a very old tooling.
Still a nice and interesting build. There was an option to seal off under the engine bay if the builder didn't want to mess about with the engine. Doors and trunk open too. The fit was bad, especially with the glass A pillars.
The fact that the engine is in at an angle by design threw me off a little bit.
Painted with Italian red over a white primer, it actually hurts your eyes if you look at it for too long.
We can only do our best.

You did a really great job on this old kit. I don't know what you meant by the engine being at an angle. I thought I would see a "slant" engine but it looks straight up & down. I see even the pedals have nice detail work. I see you even have window stickers on it. How did you do the piping on the seats?

It must have been tricky painting that seat piping. I can certainly understand why you had that misunderstanding about that slant of the engine, it's only a few degrees. And the fact that the kit doesn't fit well together. I would have otherwise expected a slant like the Chrysler Slant 6. Anyway, I wouldn't expect anyone to notice that error in a contest unless they knew about and were real nitpicky about being authentic in an IPMS contest.

Hi Dave,
May I ask you about how you do the seat piping please, do you paint the seat read first and then the black or just have a really steady hand with a really good brush...

I painted the seats black then went along the piping lines with a base white and then red with a detail brush. All hand painted. I did rush these ones a bit, it could have been a bit neater.

Hi Dave,
Rush, even at most my slowest speed, I cold never get it looking this good, so just gave up and never bothered trying after...
It does finish the interior off nicely with the piped seats...

I truly appreciate seeing these cars that are unique and not just the usual Ferrari.
Beautiful work by the way.

Great work, and very convincing - particularly like the red piping and subtle weathering. Tamiya are usually ‘very good’ kits, but I think we get spoilt by that,
and when just a good one comes along we notice the difference, altogether a blooming nice model.

Sorry, just gone through the details again, and realised it was Italeri......yes, sometimes hit and miss.
Consequently, you’ve an even better job of it.
