Tamiya 1/350 Bismarck (the wreck
Hi all i got this last christmas and was waiting for some inspiration. I saw some pics of the wreck and inspiration struck, i started this about a month ago and here is where i am now, added some salt then a light grey wash to kill some of the colour, then knock some of the salt off add another thin sandy wash, knock some more salt off then a thin black wash. I feel it's getting there now.

Re: Tamiya 1/350 Bismarck (the wreck
Hi all can you guess what this will be.
Started on a background
Put a blue whale in it which I've drawn to scale just to show how big the wreck is, i realise it don't look that great but I'm going to put dirty blue wash over the background so that should make it fade out a bit.
I'm really enjoying this build. Looking forward to my birthday and my next project (not a ship)

Hi all well I thought I could use this as the submersible used to light and film her, unfortunately it is totally out of scale so i will have to find something else, although I see that the effect will work quite well.

Excellent concept! The detailing of the wreck itself is great and the dio is similarly cool. The submersible idea is awesome ... perhaps for scale you might want to look into those cheap, clip on book lights for reading. Some of those are tiny enough to be more in scale to the wreck.

Hi all started weathering the deck.
Must say I'm a bit disappointed Tamiya don't supply and decals with this kitĀ

Hi all added some damage to the superstructureĀ
Trouble with doing a wreck is now I have to find out what the inside of that turret that's had the armour blown off looks like.

I don't know if at that depth what would be growing on the surfaces, but some stuff and maybe a thin coating of the detritus that continually falls thru the waters could work as well. Best 2 u, thanx!

Awesome work! Each addition adds to the effect, looking forward to seeing how this gets 'marine aged.'

I don't know the damage it sustained, but your depiction looks pretty good. I never gave a thought to how a ship may lay at the bottom, angle of slope, broken up in pieces with debris nearby, etc, until the tv shows with the remote controlled submersibles filming them. Yours is as good as real!

Re: Tamiya 1/350 Bismarck (the wreck
I have a few reference pics of the actual wreck and am trying to show the damage as accurately as I can
Hopefully when I get the lighting set up it will add to the atmospheric ambience.

Excellent progress! I'm guessing the anemone is the little yellow blob on the barrel of the gun, very cool.

Re: Tamiya 1/350 Bismarck (the wreck
Hi all built some more of the superstructure and added some more damage to the deckingĀ
I know there is no debris from the wreck in the immediate area but I'm sorely tempted to use some artistic licence and add some.

I think some debris is a great idea. will give the whole scene some context.

Re: Tamiya 1/350 Bismarck (the wreck
Looking awesome! I concur that localized debris might not be 'technically accurate' but it will add so very much to the dio itself.

Re: Tamiya 1/350 Bismarck (the wreck
Hi all well I've got lighting that seems more right scale wise, got another one of these to convert and ordered 2 more slightly different (just for variety) to add.

Re: Tamiya 1/350 Bismarck (the wreck
Yeah, that looks a lot more in scale and adds an incredible amount to the 'atmosphere' of the dio. Beautiful work!

Re: Tamiya 1/350 Bismarck (the wreck
Hi all well I still thought the sub was a little over scale so I've cut it down as much as I can, I've also added 2 more and added a bit more superstructure.
I was thinking of adding another light, do you think that would be too much.
