Terminal loss of mojo Empty Terminal loss of mojo

Post by GaryDainton Mon 17 Jul 2017, 9:24 pm

I have been looking at the Voyager on my bench for six months, telling myself that I will NOT start another model until it is finished. I am building t for a friend who has been unbelievably patient. I have had genuine distractions such as being in hospital with Stevie but must confess that the underlying problem has been lack of enthusiasm on my part.

I am beginning to toy with the idea of slipping in a small project such as a bust or figure to try to relight the flame but feel really guilty about sidelining a build for a friend. My favourite subject is figure painting and really miss it.

What d you reckon guys? Terminal loss of mojo 4039365958

I have a driver figure from the Tamiya Countach, no helmet so you get to do the 70's long hair with paint! He has a racing suit on though.

Your's if you'd like it Gary boy. I'll send you a seat for it to sit in if you're stuck for car seats.

I know just how you feel Gary, as my building MoJo is at an all time ebb too, having similar problems. I started the 'Any Tracked Military vehicle' on May 1st. It's 75% complete but I don't seem to be able to get back to it.

I also started the 'Race Car' GB too. Got all the parts cleaned up and the body primered. It too is just sitting there.

So go for it Gary and remember, modelling is meant to enjoyed, not endured.

Gary buddy.... I have and do suffer from that myself over the past year or so. I look at them and want to build or restore them with fire and then knowing I need parts or donors I do not have or cant find kills it...kind of a why bother deal. If it helps...try working on one part or piece at a time then come back to it later for another one...I have done that before. Hope your mojo comes back to you buddy.

Thanks guys,

Shay this is very kind of you, Ive sent for a figure so watch out in the figure painting forum for an update. If you want me to paint it for you to include in a build it would be my pleasure of course.

Al, it is difficult especially with the diversions we have, hopefully this figure will give me the buzz I'm lacking.

Mark, Im going to do a relatively simple figure which will allow me to concentrate on painting which I love.

Cheers to you all for your support an interest, Ive said it before and I mean it, this site is a very important part of my life and you guys are the best.

Hmm, what keeps me going is the fact that my goal is to finish up the stash. I'm down to around 17. I want to make sure that there is no unfinished kits left lying around when I'm gone, after all what was the point of buying them if they weren't going to get done. Or maybe I'm a tight git.

Gary, I agree with what you say about Facebook groups. They seem to be more trouble than they're worth. Everybodys more mellow on here and just goes their own way and pace.

That is the great thing that makes a site a good one....members that help each other or try to. I have been on too many other sites where you can tell most can only think of themselves and never consider the fact that a little help can mean a lot to someone or the less fortunate ones out there. Mellow dose not even begin to describe me...LOL..

Like every project, a step at a time. Set aside a limited time each day (or whatever regular pattern) you used to work on models. Small steps add up to finished work one can take pride in. The hard part in life is promise to yourself to do. Best of luck, we're behind you, pushing!

The driver is only 1/24!!

I'd love to see it finished, I can't even see it properly without reading glasses, let alone paint it!

It's still on the sprue, but has some overspray on it, I'll stick it in DOT 4.

Gary, I feel what you're going through - been there and done that. And I think your idea of doing this side project is the most constructive way to work through the block - rev the creative centres in a slightly different gear. I know 6 months seems like a long time to be stoppered but back when I was working on the tall ship rebuild my occasional pauses lasted weeks sometimes. Near the end when I was being faced with the really complex rigging I did stop for something like 8 months. When I did get back into it I had to proceed cautiously while I relearned the reflexes but it happened. I'm sure something similar will occur for you - sometimes it's just a matter of letting enough time pass.

Having modeled for 50 years, there are always slow periods and down periods, but it seems I keep coming back to this, my personal therapy.

Just leave a WIP out in the open in the work area and it will draw you back one day.

Terminal loss of mojo Empty Re: Terminal loss of mojo

Post by Guest Wed 19 Jul 2017, 4:14 pm

Gary:  I'm in much the same situation as you are.  I think I've just had too much happening the first part of the year.  I started out with pneumonia and sepsis in January leading to an ICU and hospital stay.  This was followed by back surgery in late February and total knee replacement in April.  What with rehab and recovery I just have not had the energy or desire to do much modeling.  By the way, to top things off I took a serious fall around the first of this month.  Seems the BS just continues.  Okay, now I have the whining out of the way, what to do about it.

I thought of getting out a stalled kit and working on finishing it.  Did it, but had the same problems as before.  It ended up back in the box.  Next I thought I'd try something different so I got out a relatively simple aircraft model which is completely different for me.  That lasted for a day or so before I lost interest.  Finally I decided my hobby room needed a deep cleaning and rearrangement.  I've been working slowly on that for the last week or so and find my enthusiasm is returning.  I think by the time I get done I'm going to be ready to get back to work.

I hope things work out for both of us.      John

I have sent for a 1/9th bust and will see if that can boost my enthusiasm. Thank you very much for the comments, and Im sure we'll both be back in the zone soon.
