Revell 57 Ford INSANE Rat Rod
This build was suppose to be scheduled for the near future but circumstance intervened and it got moved up. I was hoping to get the Tiger and Viky D finished first but.... It is what it is.
I found this car while surfing the inter webs and it blew my mind. I couldn't wait to dive into this build. This car was built as part of some rat rod build off and I believe it was the winning car. My goal is to use the car below as inspiration but I will not be using a nomad. Instead of a 57 Chevy I opted for the new 57 FORD Gasser as my base.
The inspiration
The model of choice
My goal is to use the Ford but add all the elements of the inspiration car with some minor differences. The car pictured has been chopped and its width has been reduced. I will not be doing that. I will chop the top and rake the roof line. I will hog out the rear wheel wells, remove the front nose, extend the frame and build that huge a** hood scoop.
A video series will be put up on my youtube channel soon.
Till next time

I might be able to help you with the 57 Chevy fenders for the air scoop, I have two front wings/fenders, enough for a scoop anyway, I'll take some pics if you want.

Sweet! Such a great idea, the construction is going to rock. I have the resin '57 donor kit version of the real thing.
This is really going to be fun to watch.

I think in keeping with the Theme the scoop should be made from a front fender on a 57 Ford. Maybe even two of them glued together.

Re: Revell 57 Ford INSANE Rat Rod
For me the coolest look is to narrow the front, like the old Model A and T ones. The web had a Corvair and some other Chevys with exposed front wheels/suspensions and they had a real retro look. I've also seen a number of less "ratted" modern ones with the flat grey or black primer, red steel wheels and white wall tires for style. There's so much one can do with new retro builds. Happy pinstriping!

Re: Revell 57 Ford INSANE Rat Rod
Ok time to get back to the 57 "INSANE" Ford Rat Rod. I went right to work attacking the body because of all the various alterations that will need to be done. I started by taping off the front end at the point I wanted to cut.
Hack, hack, chop chop, saw sound, saw sound....
The front clip will be saved to be used at a later time
Next it was "OFF WITH HER HEAD!!!" Chop chop goes the roof
Next we turned to the rear wheel wells. Here is what the stock wells look like
With my drummel I hogged out the rear wheel wells... **Insert grinding noise here**
Just an idea of how its going to look with the big slicks in the rear
Thanks for taking the time to check out my project.
Till next time....

The rat rod that inspired your build was referred to me in the past as a reference for my current steampunk build and I fell in love with it - it is so cool that you are building it!

What is your stempunk build? Id like to see it, do you have a link?
Keep in mind my build is more of an interpretation of the Chevy pictured. I want to make mine better, so I started with a ford. HAHAHAHA
All joking aside at first I wanted to do a Nomad but I couldn't justify buying another kit with so many un-built so I went with what I had. I think its a great choice and a cool twist on the original
Re: Revell 57 Ford INSANE Rat Rod

Re: Revell 57 Ford INSANE Rat Rod
Now we start to modify the roof.
The stock roof on the 57 Ford wagon slightly over hangs the rear tailgate. Now that we want to change the angle the roofline falls short of its natural position by almost a 1/4 of an inch. Shre we could leave it this way but I don't like it as much so its time to get CHOPPIN!
I started by cutting the roof at the molding that goes over the roof. before rejoining the roof halfs I removed the ender of the roof to expose the interior like you see on some of the old 30s fords. I stretched the roof about a 1/4 of an inch and joined the roof halfs together with some thin evergreen strips
The roof is now extremely flimsy. I used some aluminum tube to "Splint" the roof and hold its alignment and allow it to be worked on
Now with the roof supported I filled the gap in the roof with epoxi sculpt
I shortened the window posts and tested the fit. Its looking pretty good to me
