Monogram "Cherry Bomb"
I'm putting this in road cars even though it's a little racey and has a motorbike attached.
Browsing through the old t'interweb i came across a few model kits from my youth, this caused me to reminisce and see what was available to purchase in the local LMS and online shops .... saw this model in a few places and thought i'd like to build it again (with extra experience as opposed to 1970's glue-bombs)
Didn't have to look far to purchase one as our Great Leader came to the rescue as always ... thanks Al.
Aim to do something a little different with the paint and add as much extra detail as i can sensibly .

Re: Monogram "Cherry Bomb"
I love building old stuff I had as a kid, old crap nobody has anymore can get expensive though Colin.
Great to see old Revellograms and Round 2/amt stuff available again over the past few years.
I wish someone had molds for the Jo Han stuff.

Re: Monogram "Cherry Bomb"
Yep old stuff can get a bit OTT price wise, and sometimes hard to get hold of ..... luckily we have an Alan at our disposal lol.
Paul ... i'm thinking of doing a select few more of his models. .... also on my trip back up to Scotland last night there was a huge diversion on the M1 (A1(M)) from Scotch corner and up for about 10 odd junctions ... after a few i thought sod it and veered away and came up the east coastal roads ... passing by Hartlepool i shouted "Paul" several times but no-one answered, was gasping for a coffee as well :) ... would have dropped in on Al but he said i'd suffer the consequences (or swear words to that effect) if it was after midnight lol.

Re: Monogram "Cherry Bomb"
That already makes a huge difference Colin. A few years ago after I decided I would stick to the hobby I went on a search of old kits I remembered doing as a kid/teen and my tastes didn't result in a bunch of re-released kits so it got a bit pricey and took awhile to complete. Good thing it wasn't too big a list.

Re: Monogram "Cherry Bomb"
I built this kit as a kid Colin, it was a neat little kit.
I couldn't get the color I wanted back then, I wanted it to have the same color as a maraschino cherry but all I had available to me back then was the little Testors spray enamel paints. I didn't know about clear coats and could never have afforded an air brush back then...
The trouble with the old Testors red is it never dried very shiny...
Anyway, thanks for the trip down memory lane. I will be watching your progress

Re: Monogram "Cherry Bomb"
Nice detail on the turbine Colin. It sure is fun building kit from our childhood.

Re: Monogram "Cherry Bomb"
Its definitely more basic than i remembered heh heh, still room for lots of extra detail i suppose.
It's not going to be red though, thinking of an unusual heavy metallic (undecided as yet) with some pin striping that fades between a couple or three base colours ...
What ever i decide i'll have to duplicate it on the trailer
Got to suss out a way to get it together and spray, lots of masking to be done and it looks as though it'll be tricky ...
ps Andy ... KFC on tap, and i've thrown in some chicken dippers too

Re: Monogram "Cherry Bomb"
Got the interior done ... went with ignoring the detail already there basically.
Satin black with a light brown leather accent seemed quite nice and original.
The whole lot will have a coat of matt lacquer (hairspray) so don't worry about the drab/dull areas
The leather side bits are masking tape painted brown, the dials and clocks are just squares of styrene sheet and have had oddments of instrument decals popped on.
The turbine doesn't look that bad ....
Next will be zipping up top and bottom bodywork bits and then prepping for paint.

Hi Colin,
Are you going to be building the bike that goes with this, reason I ask is, remember the Bubble Trike on the original Mad Max film, it would look sweet sat next to the "Cherry Bomb"...

I'm doing the bomb, trailer and bike Andy .... Just considering colour schemes at the mo, want to do something well away from the normal red job

Re: Monogram "Cherry Bomb"
Ta muchly guys
Got the main body masked off, was a little easier than i first thought
The trailer, albeit only two bits, needed a little persuasion to stay put !!!
The wheels went together with no bother, the chrome looks quite good on this kit
gave the wheel nuts a little gold highlighting, will drop a little thin black wash in there which should settle around the bolt heads and highlight them further.
the body work has had its bottom coat, three colour fade, this will be pinstriped off in some pattern yet to be worked out and then the top colour will be overshot, hopefully giving a nice clean graduated line from front to rear when the tape comes off

Re: Monogram "Cherry Bomb"
That looks very cool. Good improvising with the tape on the interior. That turbine does look good in there.
I am interested in seeing what you come up with for the paint.

Re: Monogram "Cherry Bomb"
Very cool, I'm a sucker for anything with fogged paint schemes! Engine wiring is as good, with varying colors making an ordinary one-piece blob into something special. Hot stuff!

Hi Colin.
I am loving this, with the fade, may I ask which way did you go first, was it red - yellow - white or the other way round...
