'55 Chevy Pro Sportsman Dragster
so another forum im on has just started a 'Pre 1990 Race Car GB' and whilst theres a few old F1 cars getting built i wanted to do something different
i know bugger all about drag racing........even less about American drag racing! ...so had to do a bit of research
seems this guy Charles Carpenter has only ever raced dragsters with a 1955 Chevy style body and this scheme is from the late 1980's
kit is self was new tool back in 1991
current plan is to build it with the body off, i will scratch some stands to put it on

3 pairs of tyres?
Do you get a choice of front sizes then?
Looks a nice kit, very aggressive looking stance and body style.

One set is the inside sidewall for the rear tires. The rears are a 2 piece tire.

Great source for prostreet parts. Personally, I never cared for the chop they put on the top.

Re: '55 Chevy Pro Sportsman Dragster
a question............the instructions are a bit lacking.....no colour call out for the floor pan/roll cage.........pictures on the box shows it all in black......to me it looks a bit 'too black'....would this be right?........im thinking of doing the pan white to go with the body shell and the cage in black.....any one got any objections?
im asking cos i have zilch knowledge on these sort of things and i cant find any pics of the real deal

I'm no expert either Paul, but I'd imagine it's probably aluminium mostly inside.

Re: '55 Chevy Pro Sportsman Dragster
It'd sort of make sense to be bare ally in a vehicle like this .... But ....... Ya never know eh!

Re: '55 Chevy Pro Sportsman Dragster
Painting a drag car like this is normally done in a matching body color. There is no set pattern or method. Just let the creative juices flow. You can't do it wrong. They do have a lot of Aluminum interior parts to save weight, sometimes they are painted and sometimes they are raw metal color. Your choice.

Paul: My drag racing experience is from the mid-50s to mid-60s back when you drove your car to the strip, raced, and then drove it home. The right colors were what was on the car.

Re: '55 Chevy Pro Sportsman Dragster
Highly modified one like that, more likely bare metal for the most part. A few "big budget" racers would spring for the extra cost of painting inside panels in nice colors. Since it's your model, I'd go with your feelings, either works fine.

Re: '55 Chevy Pro Sportsman Dragster
You have the dizzy location correct but if memory serves me right the leads went right to the bottom of the manifold covers. I would wait for someone to confirm this though.

You have both locations correct. The spark plugs sit between the header tubes. As best I remember.

Re: '55 Chevy Pro Sportsman Dragster
Engine is looking good Paul. Now just grab a bunch of wires, put some glue all over and you should have a close replica LOL. I like the stand it will showcase the body nicely.

Re: '55 Chevy Pro Sportsman Dragster
The engine is looking good Paul and the body stand will make a nice change from the usual front props.

That engine is smart mate.
Like the idea of the stand rather than perching the body on the chassis like normal
