Came across Larry Chen's cool C10R and it really got me interested in building again.

IH Scout Pro Tour Hevy_c10r_protouring291200x800-vi

I knew if I was going to pull off the look I needed a cool set of wheels. So off to the lathe I went to see what I could come up with.
This is the result...

Then the next step was to find a donor as the chassis was all molded in on the Scout.

I had built the 39 Wagon Rod in the past and had another kit I bought for 5 bucks that was started. I grabbed the kit and took a real good look at it. It was easy to see that this kit was going to do the job. It had a lowered stance, the engine I wanted and was a really nice frame.

So confident I found a donor I started chopping.

IH Scout Pro Tour IMG_20150719_095808-vi

I wanted the open look in the front like the C10R so fender wells were removed as well.

Then on to making room in the back.

Frame was too wide and too long....

Mock up. This isn't going to work.

IH Scout Pro Tour IMG_20150719_122513-vi

I tried thinning the body fenders.

Before

After

But still no go so I narrowed the frame.

Super Project. The whole concept is great. The wheels really look good. How did you get the holes in the wheels so evenly spaced? Do you have an indexing fixture?

Thx for the interest.

Buck. I do. It's call a dividing head. Normally used on milling machines for turning stock and milling angles. I got creative and set it up in the Lathe. I put the rim in the dividing head and put the drill in the chuck. Kind of backwards to how you would normally hold a part. Then take the numbers of holes you want and divide by 360 degrees gives you the intervals.
I then used the cross feed to change the radius off of center. Hope that makes sense.

LOL. It does make some sense, I understood maybe half. They look great. Pete S has a lathe and a mill attachment, but last I spoke with him he didn't have an indexing fixture to get things perfect. I was really curious.. Now I understand.

Very, very promising, Brent. Is it going to be all wheel drive too?

Got the rear tubs done.

IH Scout Pro Tour IMG_20150719_151300-vi

Tackled the frame length next.

IH Scout Pro Tour IMG_20150719_165050-vi

IH Scout Pro Tour IMG_20150719_170510-vi

IH Scout Pro Tour IMG_20150720_080548-vi

Frame was easy but now things are getting interesting.

The ride height was close but front has to be dropped. I was going to alter the frame but the more I did that the higher the motor would be.I figured no problem as I have a pile of room until I figured out the motor is so set back that it is going into the fire wall.
So I looked at the interior tub and since the side walls are pretty much vertical I thought I could get away with taking some out of it to drop the body on the frame.

IH Scout Pro Tour IMG_20150719_174007-vi

Once that was done I had a gap on the sides.

IH Scout Pro Tour IMG_20150719_175959-vi

I thinned the door panel (so it would not look so wide) and added a filler strip.

Next I made room for the engine.

IH Scout Pro Tour IMG_20150721_150058-vi

Then I sat and pondered how I was gong to deal with this mess.. The transmission hump was massively oversized since a big 4X4 transmission wasn't going to be used. I thought about trimming around it and re making the floor.... Then into the box of goodies to see if I could find another option.

I long time ago I bought a bunch of Nascar kits. about 10 or them. All the kits were missing bodies. I think the guy was using them for slot cars or something. Anyways the width was a perfect fit and would really clean up the underside of the truck.

IH Scout Pro Tour IMG_20150721_152510-vi

IH Scout Pro Tour IMG_20150721_152522-vi

I cut the floor completely out.

IH Scout Pro Tour IMG_20150721_153524-vi

Not sure if i have any less of a mess to deal with LOL.

Hi Brent,

Love the stance, and the floor pan/interior looks just about perfect, do you use a Dremel type tool to cut the hole, it's a really nice clean cut...

Also, love the wheels...

Thanks again guys.

John. I use the back of my hobby knife to score the surface. The first few passes are critical as it lays down the path for the rest of the scores.  If you go out of the line on the first few scores the knife will follow that every time so go in the other direction to try and fix the score (Hope that makes sense). I work my way down until through the surface in one spot then I stitch over to my Photo Etched blade. The Photo Etched blades are super thin and work great. They are worth every penny and last forever if you are careful with them (They can bend easily if you are rough with them).

A bit of an update...
Hit the frame with some paint. This color will not be the body color....

IH Scout Pro Tour IMG_20150721_212651-vi

Got some other parts painted as well.

IH Scout Pro Tour IMG_20150721_212825-vi

And some fame assembly.

IH Scout Pro Tour IMG_20150726_192928-vi

Then back to the interior tub. Made a new firewall dog house and cleaned up the rest of it. I may have to clean up a bit more once I hit it with primer.
