Protech Braided Line.....
.......... and fittings.
I want to buy some but cannot find them the UK. BNA Model World in Australia sell them but don't have the sizes I need.
I could order them from Protech but their website is only set up to deal with snail mail. Go figure it's 2015!!!!
Does anyone know of any ecommerce sites I can get this stuff from?

Re: Protech Braided Line.....
Had a quick read up on this stuff and its mentioned a few times that its virtually the same as fishing braid or kite braid (which is available in different colours)
The hex (etc) fitting coud be made from styrene rod and drilled? ??
Worth a go maybe Al? ???
There's a couple of ebay sellers in the states (searching for "protech braid") that get it to you around the 20th with 4-5 quid postage..... is that too late?
All I could find from a quick search....

Re: Protech Braided Line.....
I'm guessing that would be Ted's Modeling, trouble is he only does it up to .060" whereas I need it up to .080"
It's not braided fishing line Colin, Protech has two inner cores, one of which is hardline:
http://protechmodelparts.com/hardlines.htm
Thanks for taking the time to look Colin.
UPDATE: Just found Teds Modelling website and he has 0.80" on there!!!

Re: Protech Braided Line.....
When race cars began with the aircraft style braided line a few builders used varying size braided fishing ling painted "chrome silver," but it was surpassed by the aftermarket real thing. Except for price and sometimes finicky braiding, it the real thing.
Wish u luck with finding some...maybe online hobby companies or more local online hobbyist close by?

Bummer!
To get what I need of the Protech stuff is going to cost £58.00 ($90) and I'd only just have enough to do the Brabham!!!
No way am I paying that much.
On the hunt again!!!

Ouch !!!!!
Look at some of the kite line mate, its quite convincing
Ive also had other thoughts whilst dealing with insomnia lol
Guitar strings
Wrapped bead wire
Rip open an old wireless ... some times there's braided wires in there.
I'm still thinking

Re: Protech Braided Line.....
Hey you guys are really pulling for me and I really do appreciate your efforts.
I'd love to get the Prtotech stuff but at £58.00 for a single model..... NO WAY!!
So... I have ordered a couple of sizes of 'ordinary' braided line:
The big attraction of the Protech stuff of course, was their unions. Perfect they are.
However, I think I'll settle for using a combination of these:
A lot of the hexagonal beads have angled ends but since I have a bag of about a 1000 of them, I should be able to find enough straight edged ones for my needs!!! LOL

Re: Protech Braided Line.....
I've seen where hobby size aluminum tubing is slowly filed into hex shape then pieces of the right length are cut off. Advantages of being able to bevel one end before cutting off each tiny segment and the easy shaping of soft aluminum metal make it a decent (if not quick) and inexpensive alternative to store bought ones.

Re: Protech Braided Line.....
Alan ... use a set of strong hackle pliers (i know you have some:)) ... long nose are best
Sit the hex bead level in the pliers and rub it down on some fine wet and dry to get a square edge
I used to do this to get a neat edge when fly tying ... works a treat
Although nowadays we'd probably need a magnifying glass eh lol

Re: Protech Braided Line.....
Styrene hex rod is much easier to cut squarely and is available in many sizes.

Re: Protech Braided Line.....
Thanks for the suggestion Colin. I thought the hex stuff was made of glass as the angled edges seem quite sharp. But you know what, glass or no, it works!!!
Thanks for suggesting the hex styrene Mike, I have three sizes on order as a contigency plan!
Harron, thanks for the ali tubing suggestion... that's also viable.

Re: Protech Braided Line.....
I have bought from Pro-tech direct on the internet. That was a couple years ago, I like their stuff. Like you I use a lot of craft beads in my modeling, the truth is in the scale it's hard to tell if they are hex or not. Drilling the Hex rod is something else I have tried with mixed success. It can be hard to fid the exact center and then it gets very thin on the outer areas and breaks very easily.

Re: Protech Braided Line.....
Al,
Did you ever get what you needed? I am a show-only Pro Tech dealer, so I keep some stock on hand and am allowed to sell to friends. I just can't sell on a web site under my current deal. If you still need something, let me know. I'm sure I can work it out for you.
