1/72 Airfix F-86E
I guess you can't have an F without an E. So here's my 1/72 Airfix,
Heller kit reboxed, F-86F as an E. The Heller is an excellent example
of a Sabre for it's day. It was touted as an F but the kit has the cranked
pitot and slatted wing the E had, although a few early F s also had these
options. It also has funky fins on the drop tanks, these were used post
Korean War so I made a set of fins for the drop tanks from .015 card stock.
I am doing it as Dolph's Devil, an F-86E-1 belonging to Lt. Dolph D. Overton,
he became an ace in four days.---John

Re: 1/72 Airfix F-86E
The wings and stabs are on, I puttied up some gaps, filled the short
shots on the leading edge slats, moved the pylon holes over 1/8 inch
to their proper location and sanded off the raised panel in front of the
tail which isn't on an E model. All I need to do now is fix the trailing edge
gaps and blend in the nose a bit. Seems like a lot but it is really not all
that much work.---John

Good looking Sabre John. I've got the Hasagawa 1/48 that will be built as an Avon-Sabre.

Early jets didn't interest me, way back when. Since then, like the careful models, shaded with varying metalizers and different markings and variations, make these come to life. Thanks for your effort here.
