Look at that! You got a car on your hands now. The stance looks good.

Re: 32 Ford 5 window coupe
Thanks, I started fabricating motorcycle fenders for the front tires using Evergreen
15 thousandths card stock. I cut them about 1/2 mm wider than the tire width and
figured the diameter of the tire plus 2mm. It will be roughly a 90 degree section. I
formed the pieces between my fore finger and thumb to start the roll then found a
bottle cap a bit smaller than the tires and worked it around that, friction heats up
the plastic and helps it form better. I still have a bit more forming---John

Nice shape. I would round it more than you would like, given a little time the stryrene will naturally pull back. So wait until it has kept its shape before painting.

Thanks, I was a welder for 42 years, did lots of forming, what causes plastic
or metal to spring back is the "residual stress" built into the sheet product.
That's why I went smaller diameter than the tire, but still not small enough.---John

Re: 32 Ford 5 window coupe
I ran into a few small problems. The steering linkage wouldn't fit, the rod
connecting the steering linkage to the steering box was too long. I ended up
cutting the rod that connects from the linkage to the steering box off
and taking a chunk out to shorten it. Then the 392 Chrysler Hemi would not
connect to the exhaust system. It seems that the transmission won't clear
the mount area, gets hung up on the transmission frame mount. I could cut
or sand the transmission down I guess but this is the same frame I used for
my 3 window coupe a few years back and the Ford Boss 302 engine fit perfect.
So I am changing engines, only makes sense to put a Ford engine in a Ford body.
Just a "minor" bump in the road.---John

Re: 32 Ford 5 window coupe
I was wondering how one could get the compound curves into plastic for cycle fenders. These days the best solution is to make silicone molds of existing cycle fenders (plastic or, if available, metal ones from a die-cast model), then cast your own. Time consuming, but in the long run many sets could be made after initial investment in $$ and time. Wish u well!

Re: 32 Ford 5 window coupe
Not sure about compound curve. I know how it's done in the real world, a press
with about 1000 tons of hydraulic pressure. But this isn't the real world, you are
right about casting resin ones but I don't do casting. If you look at this picture
you will see that the curves, on the front fenders, are more like a trough than
heavy compound curves. I may leave them as is or try to "pinch" the very edges
to give them the "trough" look.---John

Re: 32 Ford 5 window coupe
I think a wooden Buck and a vacuum forming device would be able to make the fenders. Or see if a member has a set from the John Milner 32 Ford Coupe hanging around in the spares box.

You could add material to the sides and sand to conture.

Re: 32 Ford 5 window coupe
Paint is finally dry. I can start back to work on it. It's NASCAR time so
since this is almost done I will want to start a NASCAR soon. I am going
to do a Petty Enterprises car from 2001. John Andretti's 2001 Dodge Chex
Party mix, all Petty blue car, believe it was run only once at the last race of
the season. I am using aftermarket decals and 1/24 Revell 2001 Bill Elliot
kit as donor. I am also using the seated figure. Anyone know what color
Andretti's helmet was? I know what color his fire suit was. Here's a preview:)---John
