1977 Toyota Celica RAC Rally
Well it's finished..... five day build. Nice quickie before years end.
It's an old Aoshima kit, originaly a road going version badly 'converted' to a rally version.
Things wrong with the kit:
No roll cage. Has full rear seat instead of stripped out interior. Standard road seats. Very basic 'platform' chassis. No sumpguard. Poorly rendered wheel arch extensions. Glasswork is opaque and looks like its a 'frosty' morning. Front mud deflectors are the wrong shape and size and make the front end look like a circuit racer air dam. It's RHD and should be LHD. The wipers are too big.
Good points:
Nicely proportioned one piece body. Lovely Minilite wheels. Correct looking stance for an in period RAC rally car. Good fit all round. No flash or mold lines. Plenty of unused parts for the spares box.
I messed up the front portion of the red side stripes. The decals were old and slightly yellowed. The red side stipes broke into several pieces while installing as did a fair few of the other decals.
To compensate for the kit front end 'mud deflectors' I made my own out of two layers of blue painters tape.

Re: 1977 Toyota Celica RAC Rally
Thanks guys.
Ash: the heavy mud (lower bits) is Tamiya Diorama Texture Paint 'Soil' Effect' daubed on first with an old stiff paint brush.
The finer more dust like mud is Tamiya XF-52 Flat Earth airbrushed on after the heavy mud.
Andy: I'm pretty sure it's OOP so it's a question of looking around. They do keep appearing on ebay of course.

Nice One.
If you hadn't mentioned the bad points, I would never have known.

Great weathering & paint, it looks like its just finished a stage. One observation, I think the green house looks too shallow?
