Airbrushes... Empty Airbrushes...

Post by Johnag Mon 20 Oct 2014, 11:38 pm

Hi all,

I am not sure if this has been asked before, but, may I ask is there really that much difference between the cheap Chinese air brushes and the expensive ones like Iwata etc brushes...

Many thanks...

Andy...

For broad spraying (bodies) I'd say there is.

However, the cheapest Iwata (The Revolution, which is what I have) is now around £90.00

For spraying the likes of Alclad metalizers I just us a cheapy chinese AB. It works just as well as the Iwata for that.

I recently replaced it with this:

I've not tried it yet, but if you are interested, I'll try it out for body spraying and let you know what I think.

Andy, I use the Pasache single action airbrush. Works great when partnered with the CO2 system I have, which allows for accurate air pressure control. I can spray down to around 15 psi, and still get good atomizing of the paint. It is an airbrush I started out with eons ago, and has lasted well. Cleaning them well in lacquer thinner is another important part of the process.

I have a double action Pasache, but don't use it very often. I prefer the simplicity and ease of use of the single action.

Another equally important part is getting the paint thinned down to the right consistency, about that of milk. Whatever one gets, it is a matter of practice, practice and practice!

I'm with Pete. I have a Pasache single action which gets used and several other brushes that seldom get used. The Pasache is virtually trouble free and will shoot just about everything and do it well. Besides that it is absolutely no trouble to clean. The only thing I can recommend besides what Pete did is get an ultrasonic cleaner. Makes that occasional deep cleaning a snap.

Here in the U.S. the single action Paasche (around for about 100 yrs!) is reasonably priced and suits almost any needs. I got mine with a coupon (40% off) at a craft store for about $40. Can't beat that and cleaning it is easy. For complex, fine work, the pricey double action ones are the choice.

Hi All,

Many thanks for all the replies, it's much appreciated, thank you...

That new kit looks really nice Al, I haven't seen any with a .8 needle before, will look forward to seeing how you get on with it...

I do have a couple of the cheap double action ones as well as one of the very cheap single action brushes, which is the one I prefer, but it only has the bottles so isn't any good for doing small paint jobs, so I just use it for primer...

Once again, many, many thanks all...

Andy...

That looks like a nice kit, Skid.
Not familiar with that brand nor price comparison with dollars.
Keep us posted on it's worthiness when you get it.

I've had it a little while now Clay.

I ran a test with it just for Andy. This is what I PM'd him:

I have to say that I am impressed with it, espescially for broad painting bodies. The .8mm nozzle gives a much wider coverage pattern.

The .3mm worked well too for spraying Alclad II.

I'd say it's a real bargain.

Of course the downside of any far east cheapie, is getting parts if anything goes wrong. However, my last cheapie cost £19.00 and lasted five years so It doesn't really owe me anything!! LOL

I can recommend it if you are on the lookout for one

Dollar price comparison: GBP30.99 = USD50.00 (app.)

There are some interesting postings on Youtube about the differences between many brands and pricing. I've found, you get pretty much, what you pay for as far as quality. For what we use it for, the Iwata Neo is a great choice and with the 2 cups, which come with it, satisfies most of my needs.

I would like to add this website as I have found Don's reviews and evaluations quite informative and fair.
Called, Dons Airbrush Tips https://sites.google.com/site/donsairbrushtips/home

Also when looking about for an airbrush think in terms of,( how easy is it to clean ). Example is the Iwata Revolution has a nozzle tip the size of a grain of rice and I sweat thinking of dropping it. I also have an Iwata Eclipse which has a nice big nozzle and therefore less intimidating to clean, my 2 cents.
Cheers Eh!
