Operation Skid
Hi all,
Just thought I'd let you know, that I went into hospital this a.m. to have an operation on my right knee, in order to fix a long term problem.
It was done under general anesthetic which, never having had an operation before, kinda scared me a little. Needn't hjave worried though, no sooner had the canula gone in and drug admistered when I was woken from a nice deep sleep by a rather pretty nurse!!!
No heavy lifting for six weeks, no driving for at least 48hours and maybe up to a week.... BUT I can still sit at the bench!!! YAY!!!

Re: hairy legs, the first people to shave their entire bodies were ancient Egyptian priests. The shaved about every other day. And there were no razors or band aids!
Lucky we don't have to! Get well, rehab safely.

Re: Operation Skid
Good luck with the recovery Al, and don't rush it - tissue takes a little longer to repair as one gets older.
But you are lucky to escape an operation until now,
- the nursing staff at Darlington Memorial know me by my Christian name and I have my own parking spot !

Re: Operation Skid
Thanks for all the good wishes guys. You're the best.
Had a bad nigh. Pumping pills and still a lot of pain. However, this morning is a lot better. Still hobling like Hopalong but the pain level is bearable now. Just can't sit/lie too long. I need to get up and keep moving, otherwise everything stiffens up and that's when the pain lavel increases exponentially!!!!

When I went for my pre op asssment, the nurse asked me all sorts of medical history problem questions to which I got fed up answering no too!! LOL. So I said to her 'Boring aren't I?. I've been lucky that way.

Sit rep:
Yesterday to be able to walk around, I had to drag my leg behind me and outwards a little. Same going upstairs. Today, I can walk normally and climb stairs normally, albeit slowly and with some pain. Coming downstairs is different however. Still has to be done one at a time for now.
Took the bandage off this a.m. to find they's shaved my bloody knee!!! :Drogar-Laugh(LBG):

Re: Operation Skid
Thanks Sam. Thanks Buck.
I'm amazed at the progress. Still a little pain when I walk, (mostly in my calf muscles) still a little stif and still a little swolen but nothing to gripe about at all.
Changed the dressings this morning and there is just a single tiny incision either side of the knee with a single stitch in each.
Amazing!!

Keyhole surgery using scanners, I'm guessing.
Glad things are going nicely.

Re: Operation Skid
Best wishes.
Having to sit for long stretches is the worst.
Don't rush it, let it heal.

Re: Operation Skid
Thanks guys.
Actually Clay, it's the other way round. I've to keep it active. Sitting around inactive for more than 30 minutes and it begins to seize up and become painfull to move.

There's truth in maintaining mobility to keep muscles and joints working. Whatever the rehab squad says is the quickest way back to full strength. Wish u well!

Re: Operation Skid
Hang in there Al, I had the same operation on the same knee on Sept. 19th. Did my first hour long power walk today. I also had the left knee done six years ago.
