not so funny car.
This Easter weekend I was going to make a start on signwriting a friends new funny car body.
Here's what I did a couple of years ago,
which has campaigned in Germany, Denmark, Finland and Sweden, as well as the UK....
Here is what the new car should look like......
..and here is what I was faced with yesterday.....
The body painter obviously has never painted flames before (looks like snakes) - it is astonishingly bad.
I wanted to just walk away from it, but the car is racing in a couple of weeks time,
and not to let my side down, or add to my friends misery, I'll go ahead with the lettering - without enthusiasm,
in the hope my lettering and graphics will blank out the poor flamework.
I don't think my 'Traffic Graphics' sticker will be appearing on this car.

Re: not so funny car.
I agree .....
Do the job, get paid, don't advertise yourself on the car for fear of "association comebacks" between you and the painter ....
if you look at it through one squinted eye ..... the orange doesn't look too bad as a starter to build up on for the flames .... the black "lines/snakes" however look like my grandsons been at it with his crayons

Ron: Looks to me like you can make the car look respectable, but it will never win any beauty contests. Good luck!!

Boy I agree on the ugly flames. Very amateurish at best!!
The design drawing looks fabulous. Good luck on the lettering. I also hope it will help cover up the terrible flames!

Re: not so funny car.
The black flames are meant to be a shadow of the orange flames above,
with a bit of grey fogging on the white to give a 3D effect,
..or at least that's what it was supposed to be.
The guy who painted it hasn't really looked at the original and if he was having problems
I could have masked them for him - for free !
Still miffed !

Re: not so funny car.
Here is an update on the Funny Car...
...the lettering, decals and logos have given the car a lift
- but this car was designed by a committee with so many people having their say
....without thinking things through.
The welder logo on the tail doesn't look right because of the curvature of the body and wing.
- on a flat piece of paper it works great, but in real life - it doesn't.
However, it's done, and although I worked several days on it I only charged expenses.
On a sunny day the Chrome Foiling will have the wow factor,
and with the addition of contingency decals along the lower sides, I may get to like it.
....but it's not the swansong I had hoped for.

Re: not so funny car.
A the end the body looks not to bad. But the important things is, how fast it runs??? :D

This looks better than I expected. I agree with the welder at the back. the curves sort of foreshorten it when viewed from the side. I agree that the sponsors logos on the side will help. All in all, not too bad. Like Brizio said, how does it run??

I am like you, it looks better than I thought it would. I guess it's a live and learn thing.

Re: not so funny car.
Actually, If it had been a total disaster, I probably wouldn't have updated pictures.
How did it run?
It was out on shakedown runs last weekend,
but the Hemi heads had been skimmed so much that the valves were kissing the tops of the pistons, so it was back to the workshop.
The engine is actually a Volvo marine engine, used by Swedish drag racers,
which is really a rebadged Chrysler Hemi with all the Crane upgrades.
