Where's my '68 Camaro ? Empty Where's my '68 Camaro ?

Post by Guest Wed 15 Jan 2014, 1:49 pm

I woke up this morning thinking about the ’68 Camaro Super Stocker that I was building.
As I lay there in bed staring at the ceiling, I pondered whether to paint it White or Metallic Blue.
Then it dawned on me - I don’t have a model of a ’68 Camaro - I dreamt it !
I was kinda disappointed, because it was looking soooo good.

I woke up one morning years ago fully expecting to see "my" 1961 Lincoln Continental parked outside. LOL

Strange things, dreams.

'As I lay there in bed staring at the ceiling, I pondered whether to paint it White or Metallic Blue'.

Actually, I think I'll go for White - it's the usual colour of ceilings - not metallic Blue !!!

In all the years I have been building models I have never had a coke bottle Camaro.
I've never really fancied one - until now.
The dream must have been telling me something.

Go on. Live the dream. In 1/24-25th or better yet, 1/1 scale.

You know it makes sense!

Montego's were not nice cars - ancient mechanicals and dated styling.
Nightmares from the day they were launched.

Here's a example of my 'dream' S/S Camaro - Bill Jenkins version: 'Grumpy's Toy'.
It's strange - as each day passes, I'm liking them more.

..Sadly, Chris, I am mow a man of limited financial resources and past building real cars.
Money is so tight I have to ask the wife's permission to buy a model !!

Bernadette told me the Allegros were called All-Agro's back in the day Al. LOL

I remember driving a Montego Turbo back in the day, I was quite young and it seemed like a rocket when it was on boost, as good as a manual 535i at least in a straight line LOL

Man goes into the Motor Factors back in the day and says 'can I have a locking petrol cap for my Lada?'

'Fair swop' says the geezer...

Why did Ladas have heated rear windows? So your hands didn't get cold pushing it home...

The old ones are always the worst ones. Muhaha!

The Ladas weren't as poor as the East German TRABANTS (?SPELL?). I saw one partly disassembled on TV. The car was small, powered by what amounted to a 2 cycle snowthrower engine, and had sort-of cardboard interior panels. It was ugly too. And loud. Funniest part was that there was a multi year waiting list to buy one and folks were proud to own them. Reliability may have been as bad as the Yugo.

Aaahhhhh, Trabi's. And the stories continue!

I went to Germany for work (Daimler Benz) years ago, just after unification. Was there for three weeks, and went up to Dresden for a weekend trip in the rental Opel sedan (good and fast on the Autobahn). Traffic would jam up, and guess what was causing it? You guessed it, a Trabi going maybe 80 kph, smoking like crazy from the two cycle engine. When we got to Dresden, they were all over the place, like little smoking bugs!!!

End of story.

Thanks for the history Al. But the ones I (almost) ran into were not that fast!

I love the Trabi "monster truck" and the Trabi flopper. Great ones! Got a good chuckle at all of them.

The old rear-engined Skodas also fell into the joke car category
- but they always won their class in the British RAC rally - for years!
...once I almost bought a yellow Rapide Fastback in the late 70's after taking a test drive,
but fortunately the Bank refused me credit on it at the time.

Tony, I did one on Buck's forum. Biggest job was to cut & fabricate a trans tunnel & room for a live axle on the rear.

Small block Chev was tight, but some firewall surgery butchery, as well as to the front cross member.

Its a great little kit. Well moulded, with plenty of detail. Perhaps a transverse turbo 4 or V6?
