Facebook Savvy?
Due entirley to personal reasons, Jason, (Tumbler75) has had to step down as moderator, and as our Facebook guy.
This leaves us needing someone else to step into his shoes.
Moderating on Skid's Place is a doddle. All the members are great guys so apart from a VERY odd occasion, there is really nothing to do.
I don't know anything about Facebook but I'm told that to do a weekly update takes very little time.
So if any of you guys are Facebook savvy and would like to contibute in that way, we'd be pleased to hear from you.
Just send me a PM and we'll discuss it. (Just don't ask for big money, 'cos there ain't none.......

Re: Facebook Savvy?
Just seen this Al, Facebook is a great thing and I spend a lot of time on there, mostly on modelling group pages and with modelling friends. The problem with it is of course that rather than inviting people and controlling who is on the forum, Facebook tends to open the door and unless VERY closely monitored spam can become a real problem, even then it can come through the back door such as via hacked accounts. Pornography and sales pitches are a real problem but if well managed the page can be well protected by preventing/rapidly removing offending posts.
Im sure I could generate a lot of interest and create a large group via the Facebook page. The question is "Do we want to?". Perhaps a general discussion of the pro's and con's might be a good idea on the forum?

Re: Facebook Savvy?
I have been admin and moderator on quite a few forums of differing topics and moderating and admin is indeed a doddle .... one thing that this spacebook, myface, twiddle scenario does is lessen visits to the original forum.
Two high ranking forums i was a staff member on have become defunk now because the owner decided to create a spacebook page or whatever it is .. one of them was a British society too .... shame really.
It is the way forward though, everyone living in each others media devices but I for one dont do any social media so i wouldn't visit.

Re: Facebook Savvy?
Facebook is nothing more then a glorified news feed/social scourge. It is very hard to have multiple subjects going on without confusion. Personally can't stand FB it is great if you are a builder trying to capture a following. If you are the only person posting builds it works, but as a group thing it is just too dynamic.

Re: Facebook Savvy?
Wow.... it's been almost three years since I made that post.
However, I don't think we want or need to go that route now.
But thanks for the input guys.

Re: Facebook Savvy?
I believe it could work well if run as affiliated but separate from the forum. members of the Facebook page would not automatically become members of the forum but would be separately vetted by the forums admin. There are many modelling groups on Facebook but that is not to say that we could not offer something which would be appreciated and enjoyed.
In any case the page is up and running and if it is to be continued, it should be supported by properly promoting and developing it.

Re: Facebook Savvy?
I don't like it either Paul. Modelling sites there seem to be totally disorganised.

Re: Facebook Savvy?
I have to say I enjoy the few Facebook pages I'm involved in, although its fair to say that I don't get as much from them as the forum. I suppose its each to his own.
Im beginning to regret reviving the thread now

Re: Facebook Savvy?
I just thought you'd had an idea to do the spacebook thing Al .... i only got the "new post" jobbie from Gary on my phone and assumed it was a new thread.
In Garys defence it's hard to tell when threads are first posted on here as there isn't any "year" allocated to the date ............... see, scruffbag .... i'm sticking up for you

Re: Facebook Savvy?
LOL... check this out on in the first post Colin!!
But it's not a problem. If there is a post on the site, it can be replied to, no matter how old.

Re: Facebook Savvy?
You need to change the date format in your profile Colin. There are about twenty to choose from.
Pick one which includes the tear!!

Re: Facebook Savvy?
Changed it twice and it went back to default when I logged out and back in again so I gave up ages ago.
Might have been a glitch with the forum at the time

Re: Facebook Savvy?
Didn't matter what I used in the couple of days I played with any profile settings, it reset to default if I logged out.
Gave it a couple of chances and then just ignored it, just put it down to the forum software engine being a bit naff
It was ages ago, when I first joined.

Re: Facebook Savvy?
I got an e-mail from another model forum that has become a library of the past. The reason seems to be F.B. and other community forums. It seems to me that using the "My Space, Face Book, etc" as advertising for the more in-depth places like this one is okay. When such places become an end product in themselves, these good spam-free forums suffer. Just my view.
