Brabham BT44b 1:12
Despite the problems with the Lotus 72, it fired me up to do another period F1 car..... this time in 1/12th scale.
It's forty years since I klast did a model in this scale so It should be fun.
This is the kit:
It's the latest re-issue with the photo etch fret.
Here is a shot of the monocoque and a rear tyre for sense of scale:

Lots of room to really detail this one and being a Tamiya it should be a good kit.

The BIG scale Tamiya F-Ones are fantastic. I'll be waiting to see developments. The web has so many fotos that we in the U.S. couldn't get back when it came out, detailing and correct colors for small parts can now be found. Thanx for doing an F-1!

Re: Brabham BT44b 1:12
Thanks for the encouragement guys.
Shay, the kit I got last year at the Telford show is the Heller 1:12th Renault RE20/23
12 days in and despite a couple of hours most nights in cleaning up parts and a little basic assembly and paint, that's all I've done. Seems like I've been at it forever and got almost nowhere!!! LOL
It doesn't look much but apart from the wheels and tyres plus the wind deflector glass, it's all there.
Next up is priming and paint. Assembly should then be straight forward.

Nice start Al. The bagged parts, just what you told me to do. They are still bagged. I don't think this one will give you much trouble, you always do a good job.

Thanks guys.
Buck, don't be deceived. The bag marked Satin Black alone, contains 132 parts. The whole kit consists of 347 styrene parts, the four tyres and a P/e fret containing 58 parts.

Will you be painting some of those P/E parts, Al?

Re: Brabham BT44b 1:12
I only ask because I have never painted PE parts before. Is there any special trick to it?

Re: Brabham BT44b 1:12
Typing in "painting photo etched model parts" search gets nice results. Scale Auto Enthusiast is brief but thorough with pics. Cleaning foto etched parts with anything that removes any oils or foreign matter before painting. I'm thinking if the parts are tiny, paint should be thinned pretty well and any excess removed so it doesn't puddle in low areas, hurting the detail. I haven't done any p.e. parts myself. They're also used in military and model RR-ing.

Re: Brabham BT44b 1:12
It doesn't sound like a big deal but cleaning those parts can be time consuming, even on a good kit. You'll be able to be rewarded for all the hard work you laid out first.

Great idea Al with the bags! I dig this car, I'm going to be watching this.

Thanks guys.
Curt..... the bags are not something I'd recommend for a novice but experienced builders, like most on Skid's place, learn to be able to recognise parts by their shapes and not the numbers on the instruction sheet, so it saves a whole bunch of time when airbrushing.

Re: Brabham BT44b 1:12
Definitely cuts down on AB usage. I think the bags would be fine for a novice builder when building a Tamyia kit as the parts are illustrated quite well in the instructions.
I'll be doing this from now on with the rest of my builds.
