Datsun 510 w/ VG30DETT
Ok so as the title reads this is a little diffrent...
So lets start off slow... Because this is everything the car isent. SLOW lol
So little bit about this little beauty.
The motor is the VG30DETT.
It is the heart of the Nissan 300zx twin turbo Fairlady...
And this girl packs a punch...
VG30DETT is 2960cc in capacity, with an over-square bore/stroke relationship of 87 and 83mm, respectively. The combustion chambers are of a pent-roof design, with the spark plugs positioned close to the bore centre. The four valves per cylinder are operated by double-overhead cams working with zero-lash hydraulic tappets. The compression ratio of this twin turbo engine is 8.5:1 and the original specs show an SAE NET output of 300hp at 6400 rpm and a peak torque output (again SAE NET) of 283 ft-lb at 3600 rpm. Almost a cube in physical dimensions, the engine is 710mm long, 775mm wide and 695mm high.
That about says that...

Now how's this big boy look in that tiny engine bay...
Like it was supposed to be there in the first place right...
And over all car...
That's it for now. I'm thinking if I wanna run full plumb for a intercooler or not... Getting kinda tight. But with very minimal cutting it would be doable... Or I massage the center of the hood and no cutting necessary...
Well that's it for now... Thanks for looking in and hope you enjoy so far.

Nice start Ricky.
What kit are you using and any chance of a box art shot please?

Looks like things are getting tight under the hood. Excellent use of metalizers on the engine/trans. Would sending coolant to a trunk area radiator be an option to gain space ?

Re: Datsun 510 w/ VG30DETT
Yeah I'm thinking of locating it to the rear for sure... I'm trying to fit the fan... That's gonna be the real fight... Oil cooler ill use will be front mounted on the outside bumper. Need some eyelets for the inside headlight for intake horns.
The black on the intake is well flat black with lead pencil shaved on some sand paper then rubbed on the black it self. First time doing that. Very happy with the results for sure...

Re: Datsun 510 w/ VG30DETT
I luv those little 510s, and built one supercharged from the Revell Bre-Datsun kit. I saw a full size one powered by a rotary Wankel engine and it was really fast as it was so light.
Your engine looks like like the one from the 300zx by Tamiya, a great kit.
That engine and car was the height of power and technology for Nissan as the U.S. Japan exchange rate made anything like it later too costly. Good luck with a great idea! Great fotos!
