'89 Turbo Trans Am
I've had this sitting in the stash for about a year so I thought I'd build it just to get rid of the tatty box, ugh. Despite the condition of the box all the parts were there and undamaged, although the decals were completely shot.
I started a few days ago and its coming together quickly. The Buick V6 is mostly done, it just needs the plug leads and exhaust manifolds added.
After spraying the underside matt black the suspension and exhaust have been fitted.
The bumpers and side skirts fitted quite nicely after a bit of fettling.
Finally for this post, a quick mock up.
More soon.

That's one manky old box! Still, as long as the plastic is OK, who cares. I haven't seen this kit before, where did you find it Tim?

The box put me in mind of a raw materials supply for kit bashing, lol. Good start on the kit and the parts look nicely detailed.

It was passed on to me by a fellow modeller who got it from a second hand kit seller that he knows. Presumably the condition of the box made it unsuitable to be put on sale.
A bit more progress, starting on the interior.

Nice start. I never knew the Buick V6 Turbo was available in anything other than the GN/GNX and the Regal I think it was called
Can the US contingent give me any info please?

Re: '89 Turbo Trans Am
An okay subject for a model. I didn't know it came with a turbo V-6 either. RE: mildew box, when I went to the conventions (sales) there were always a few for sale,as well as partially crushed boxes and the inevitable "overstocks" bought from model companies and sold in the sealed bags without the boxes or decals. Good luck, hope you choose an interesting color!

They were all white, with a tan leather interior apparently.
Difficult to find on Google, it always shows the early 80s turbo version unless you know exactly what you're looking for, just over 1500 produced and contracted out to a company in California. Very interesting.

Re: '89 Turbo Trans Am
These cars didn't get much press. The engine must have been de-tuned because you heard more about the Buick GSX than this car and I bet the Firebird was lighter. A GSX could go low 12s with a bit of a tune. I bet you could get the T/A in the high 11s. That is killer for a streetable car and definitely would have out performed the Vette offered the same model year.
Looking forward to progress on this one.
