I recently used some of that exact filler on an old MatchBox plane kit. It never bonded to the plastic, I was able to peel it off. Any thoughts on what I might have done wrong. The seconda attempt was no better. I pre sanded the surface and wiped it down with iso alcohol, it still did not bond.

40 Ford butchery - Page 2 2481775780   I have been using this regularly for several years... and I do a lot of Bondo work. Even when I was working repairing fiberglass on RV's I have learned that a lot of failures for other folks, w/ Bondo. is using too much hardener. Works best mixed to a very pale pink !

cheers for the tip and taking the time to read and response Clay. I will try cutting back on the hardener then.

Keep up the work Clay.

Taking a small break from tedious body work to fill the 40 Ford taillight depressions. The small corners that still have Bondo have been strengthened with super glue. Altho Bondo has cured, it is still delicate on edges. Super glue soaks in to some extent and the edges can be worked. Just a little more info.
Taillights will be 49 Merc leftovers.

Base body starting to look pretty good. This is a sanding primer.Sanding scratches and small imperfections to be dealt with yet. Then I can start on the art deco themed stuff I want to do.

Beautiful "custom" body work. The round side window is a matter of personal choice. The front end is very good thus far. High marks for what I'm sure will sit very low!

I showed this to my local butcher and he said he couldn't do any better at all. 40 Ford butchery - Page 2 1705482731

Great work Clay, I think you are going to capture the Art Deco look after all.

Letting the last coat of primer gas out to see if there is any more sanding that needs to be done. Meanwhile, I have changed the 40 chassis's rear end to a narrower one, and dug up a set of 'old school' 16" wheels and tires that all fit inside of the fenders.

Modified some skirts from the salvage yard to become art deco'd.

And from me too. I gave up using 'bog' (Aussie slang for bondo) because of the edge lifting.
Thanks Clay!

I only use Evercoat. It's more expensive, but it is sooo much better than the Bondo junk.

Dan, I used some Evercoat many years ago. I really liked it. I remember the hardener was yellow in color (I think). I haven't seen any  around.
When I was in the RV industry we used large batches of Bondo to cover the joints where the skirting was fiber glasses to the end clips. Occasionally, we'd get Bondo with blue hardener instead of the normal red. When that happened I often would mix two separate batches and then combine them when applying to get a marbled effect, just for the he** of it.
When we had leftover fresh Bondo, we would dump it on a 'tower' that had been started. That would harden into a weird shapes, and eventually the hardened 'tower was taken to the paint shop where it would get painted. We had some interesting knickknacks ! I wonder if any one still has one of those .

Don't laugh. Some of the old Bondo abstracts may be residing in art galleries or the homes of the wealthy! Thanx for the project and info.

I knew that front fender trim wasn't arched enough before I took that last picture, so this morning I took both sides off and made new ones.

Clay, I love the look of this thing. The "Opera Window" is a real eye catcher. Nice work.

Duuuuude! The styling is awesome, art deco verging on 'alternate reality' fanciful. Really, really beautiful and I anticipate much more coolness on the horizon.

Made provision for mounting a continental spare wheel and then  cleaned up the rear end to accept bumper mounting.

I have windows made and all of the minor parts are ready, so, it'll go to paint and then assembly. Next post will be in NMA, probably.
