Panzer Kampfwagen V (Panther) 1:35

This is a simple kit which Scalemates dates back to 1961 with this box art dated to 1976:



As you can see, it is pretty basic........



but it will suit my purpose, which is as a test bed to improve (hopefully) my airbrushing camo skills. So expect to see it in various paint jobs something like these:

One I have in the stash just never got round to it

Construction is complete and ready to start experimenting. 

I'll be using the grey primer as the base coat so as not to waste paint. Then re-prime and attempt another camo pattern etc.

A surprising amount of detail to be seen for a kit with so few parts. Looking forward to seeing how your experiments turn out.

OK.... 1st attempt. The colours are weird but I didn't want to waste good paint. 

The patern is wrong of course but remember, these attempts are about airbrush control only.

Doing a car body is a piece of cake compared to this. At least for me at this stage!!!

I like this one best so I'm going to with it.

Paul it will be getting a pin wash and some streaking.

thats more the classic three colour scheme

the one good thing about german camo is that since there wasnt anything standardised its not really possible to get it wrong

just found some artwork in my 'research' file.....wish id remembered sooner

Paul, my scheme looks very similar to your second last illustration.

Nice results with the practice! And that reference to the German camo schemes gave me the feeling that anything goes as long as it's practical for the environment. Looking forward to seeing the further developments.

Most German camo was applied in the field with anything from an ordinary paint brush to spray guns and not to any set pattern. Winter white wash was often applied with a sweeping brush.

I applied a pinwash all over, applied the decals, did some streaking and then flat coated it with Windsor and Newton Matt UV Varnish.

Al: With results like that you don't need more practice.

Decals always give a model a more complex and finished look. Congrats on another you can take pride in.

I didn't like the chipping effect I did (made a pigs ear of it actually) so I turned it into rust:

The wheels are on and detailed. Just waiting on some suitable paint for the rubber tyres to arrive and painting of 'Fritz'. Also I still have the spare tracks to add but again I'm waiting on paint.







The tracks need to lie down on the wheels like this:



Normally, I have been able to use CA but that doesn't work on the rubber of these tracks!!

Anyone got any suggestions?

Nice work with the paint! I liked the initial chipping and the follow up rust spots are fantastic. The only thing I can offer as far as 'critique' goes is that the larger rusty zones can seem a bit too uniform in tone, but that is purely subjective. The matte coat really pops out the detailing as well. Looking forward to seeing the further developments.
