AMT 32 Ford Viky Rat Rod The "Viky D"
While waiting for thing to happen with the Sunbeam Tiger I decided to start another project. This one fills a couple needs for me. One I've been wanting to build a 30's car ever since the new Revel 30 Ford came out. I've been on a tear buying them, the 30, the 29, the 33 Eliminator and a few 32's. The problem is I don't know much about these cars and not sure how to build them (Paint scheme wise). I've also been getting the itch to build a rat rod after recently discovering the show "Vegas Rat Rods." So one thing led to another and I decided that I wanted to do a rat rod, I wasn't sure what kit but I wanted a rat and it had to have a diesel motor like on the Vegas Rt Rod show.
I reached out to a friend online that is big into building diesel trucks and asked if he had a spare motor I could have. He did and once I got it in my hands my mind exploded with ideas. The next thing was what kit to use? None of the kits I had had the body I envisioned so i ran out to Hobby Lobby and found the 32 Ford Viky. BINGO!
Here's the kit
Here is the motor that inspired me. Yeah its a glue bomb but I think I can work with it. Oh, I know its HUGE and massive and obnoxious but thats what I like about it.
Till next time...

Re: AMT 32 Ford Viky Rat Rod The "Viky D"
The first this I wanted to address was the roof. The factory roof was just too high. I opted to lower the roof line by approximately 3 scale inches. To accomplish this I cut a thin strip of tape and wrapped it around the car where I wanted to cut. I then used the tape as a guide, cutting along the top AND bottom of the tape
After cutting what I needed to lower the roof a problem surfaced. When I lined up the roof to the body from the back I found the middle pillar was a wee bit off and the front pillar was a whole lot off. The answer was more chopping
I removed the roof insert to open things up and allow a view into the interior after its built. With the center gone I used some very thin evergreen styrene to join the roof together. Then filled the gap with filler
Let the sanding commence
Till Next Time....

Cool plan. Diesels don't thrill me and can be hard to make seem interesting as well as to detail and wire. They are big, and that fills the bill anyway. Nice chop. My one Vicky of that kit, built decades ago had the same chop and roof opening. Good luck, good fun!

I'm trying to add as much detail as I can to give it those points interest but I don't know what kind of diesel it is to look up the real thing for its details

Time to turn my attention to notching the frame
Evergreen styrene was implored in this phase for the frame rails
Removed the rear of the frame
Used evergreen sheets for reinforcing the frame joints. These will be trimmed
With the back completed I turned to the front. I cut right in front of the firewall, raised and extended the frame by about an inch or so.
Till next time....

Looks like a pretty long extension of the front. With diesel in the background there looks to be room for a big radiator shell in front. We'll see what will happen. I won't judge until it's done.

With the basics of the frame done its time to look at the Diesel power plant. As I believe I stated earlier this was a glue bomb I received from a friend online for free so its hard to complain.
I sliced off the diesel transmission because it is too big and not needed for this.
I had a spare motor and trans kicking around and stole the trans for this build. You may think its odd or even stupid to hook up a car trans to a diesel like this and you'd be right but of all the builds I've watched on Vegas Rat Rods that incorporated a diesel motor they installed a car transmission. Of course the diesel here is much much bigger but I don't care, it just looks nasty and cool at the same time.
Next the diesel went into the freezer for a few days in preparation to carefully break off the components for cleaning, paint and reassembly.
Once I cleaned it up a bit I made some mounting points for the engine mounts to be added later. To do this I took some Evergreen styrene I beam material, removed one side to make a C channel and clued it to the block. The engine mounts attached to the frame will slide right into the C.
Fabricating the engine mounts
Just a dry fit of how the diesel engine will look in the frame. I know its not everybodys taste but I'm diggin it
